Oh no, not another one of these! (Sorry!)
I've been working on trades lately, and sometimes I take a break and do quick little things that occasionally turn into larger projects. And I had so much fun pixel-ing Arikalen I just had to do Taver too. Sadly, he didn't turn out quite as well.
I had the hardest time dramatically shading a whitish gryphon. Any shading on the white parts that looked decent always looked too pale with his dark brown wings. So I did what I could and came up with this. There are parts that still bother me a little- I shouldn't be allowed to draw after midnight, hehehe...But overall I like it. Taver wants his glowy orb....

Oh this is very nice. The glow you gave it is so very impressive and realistic. It seems like you lit it in just the right places. The shading, markings, and vast ammount of detail is so extremely well done too. I really like the hands and the shading on the beak. The way you did the orb is really interesting. I doubt if I could ever make my pixels this nice.

Thank you! I sometimes wish I had made the spotting and the striping on his body a little darker and easier to see amidst the shading, but I was worried he was getting too dark as it was. And I'm glad you like the lighting! The hardest part about the glowy orb was trying to find a way to make it look glowy on any color background. That's why it's more of a glow in a contained orb, rather than a point of light glowing green. Hehehe! And I bet you could do pixel art if you wanted - it's kinda like working with a box of 8 colored pencils instead of 180. You don't have all the colors you're used to, but you can approximate effects like gradients by using more diffuse spotting. And I'm babbling too much, sorry!

Did it again! Another wonderful pixel piece. :333
Sooo much detail again... And you did a fabulous job with the white! I love these wings, too...

Thank you! Working with pixels is a lot of fun. Trying to show the feathers while still keeping him kinda white was interesting, but I like how it came out, hehe!

What program do you use to color these pics Kat? And do you have to use like an artpad rather than the mouse or keyboard? Cause I want my pics to look that good color wise.

Okay you really can't tell you made any mistakes here. It's so cute! *Grabs Taver and runs off with him.*

Well, I start out drawing them in MSPaint, but I usually end up doodlesketching too large and inevitably have to take them into Photoshop, where I shrink them down to the final size and then make the final pixel art from the sketch in Photoshop. (Yay, more than three undos!) And you can do them with a mouse, because it doesn't rely on pressure sensitivity or anything, but it's a lot easier with a tablet. With a tablet you generally can get a line to do what you want, and shading an area is faster. But that's not saying it's impossible with a mouse! And the color is a different issue. I paint a blob of my base color off to the side and then take the darkest shade color I intend to use and test a few different levels of opacity on that swatch, then I select one of the semi-shaded colors and shade with that at 100% opacity. That stage is definitely helped by Photoshop, but it'd be do-able in Paint if you had a good eye for color...

And I talk too much, sorry! >.>

Well I am patient, but I don't think it should take me 3 months to color a pic with Paint.
