would you mind if i used this in a school project on fantasy creatures? the final result might end up on DA as well, and i would of course give you full credit for your work. if you don't want it on DA, i will simply take it out.

I'm part of a writer's craft class at high school. i wrote a short story/reference book on African mythological creatures. I need to present it in some way, and i wanted to illustrate it and make a slide show/movie of it to show the class so i don't have to make 25 copies (lol. that would be a lot of ink). I'm not being marked on the artwork, so you will be getting all the credit, under whatever name you want (your real name, a pen name, etc) in the back of the book (When I post on DA, I'll be using your account name instead). I've been getting a much better response than I expected, so your picture may not end up being used as I now have more than enough pictures, but I'm not sure which ones I'm using yet, it'll all depend on how they fit around the writing.

Never seen a roc drawing before? You're missing out. Mind you, once I think about it, I haven't seen many, either. That's one of the reasons I drew it.
Your right about the draconic/old-ness, though I hadn't seen it before. I knew I was going for a slight feeling to it, but I wasn't sure what it was. I think you just hit on it.
The detail isn't anything special, I'm afraid; just lots of little loops. I could never draw the feathers in properly...eek!
Again, you're right about the horse; the reason it's like that is because the whole thing was sketchy originally - like the roc's feet. Then I got carried away and did a bold outline and a bunch of detailing, which kinda covered up the messiness on the roc. I didn't want to make a big focus of the horse as it was just there for size comparison, so I left it. Perhaps I should have smartened it up a bit.
I'm glad you like it - I never draw birds, and I didn't use a ref for this (explains a few things ), so I'm happy it turned out okay I love rocs; they should get drawn more.

Very impressive! Is that the Karkadan that it has in its feet? (I'm such a mythology nut!)

Oh- lol.
Based on what I have heard, there is a story in which there was an account by the legendary Sinbad about the Karkadan, which he claimed was the largest and fiercest of unicorns. The only creature that dared to fight it was an elephant, and it ended up losing when the karkadan stabbed it with its horn. However, the dead elephant got stuck on its horn and the karkadan couldn't get it off. After days, it was quite tired of lugging the body around with it, and then a Roc happened to swoop down, grab both of them and ate/fed them to its young. How I love happy endings!
Oh okay. Still looks great!

That is a pity, that she'd never heard of a roc. Rocs are the main form of the Avian royalty in my roleplaying website. Every building on that planet is big enough to host a Roc comfortably (or a Dragon, but those are smaller than Rocs in general, lol). Sorry, I'm rambling on. I love this drawing, it's great.

Oh, heh, well, these Dragons are huge compared to most any other animal, but the Rocs have them beat by half, lol. Here's the link to my website, feel free to snoop around. I suggest the Information Boards first, then if you feel like joining, the Rules and Important Site Info. Thanks for your interest, and you're welcome for the fave, best drawing of a Roc I've seen in ages.

Oh yes, they're huge, and their Nests (ENORMOUS log cabins) and other edifices are big enough for them to move around in easily, so you can imagine how intimidating that'd be to the rest of us puny mortals. Yes, Avian royalty are hatched as normal winged humanoids, but as they get older, their bodies morph into something like < a href="https://www.deviantart.com/deviation/26235040/">this along the way towards their final incarnation, which is a Roc. The rest is a tad complicated, lol, which is why you're free to check out the site, and no pressure on joining, lol, just if it tickles your fancy. We para, T1 battles, no ooc in the rp areas, no revivals of suicides, and no title charas without permission from admin.
You'r right, I haven't seen many drawings of rocs, and oddly enough, the last time I saw one, it was ALSO carrying a horse! Wish I could remember where I saw it, I'd show you.

Lol, it's intimidating sure, not for the faint of heart. Para= paragraph rp, as in at least five sentences per post. T1 = one of several battle styles; you'll find the rules for T1 in the site. Title charas = any royal, Lawgiver or military chara. Basically, anyone who'd have some real power in the game. We all have to learn sometime, right? Pm me or catch me in YIM sometime if you have questions.
