Description
I wonder what you will look like?
Her eyes met her own reflection in the mirror and analyzed each feature she possessed. Subtle nose, curving hips, full lips...protruding belly.
It wasn't that much of a change to her small frame, but when she turned to the side...a small lump was noticeable.
At first, she was appalled because she thought she had been eating too much and gained some weight...but minutes ago, she took her very first pregnancy test which uncovered a new fear.
Pregnancy was something she did not even think about. After the wedding, Levi and herself decided to wait for children. After all, she was young and wanted to be alone with her husband before introducing children into the world.
But now, it was as if she had no choice. Of course she would love her baby even if she wasn't prepared but the matter was preparing itself. How would she go about telling Levi? What if he wasn't ready?
A gulp sounded from her throat and she slowly pulled her shirt back down. Even if she waited to tell him, it wouldn't be very long until he noticed the change in her body.
She would need to plan it out...Make him his favorite meal for dinner time and tell him while they ate together. It would be like ripping off a band-aid. Quick with a slight sting.
I wonder what your voice will sound like?
The click of the door signaled his arrival from work. She could already feel her nerves unraveling out of control despite her mind's constant echoing to stay calm.
She had to remind herself to breathe as he stepped in their home and delivered a soft peck to her cheek. Thank god he failed to notice how tense she was.
“Was your day good?” He asked in his usual monotone voice while he removed his coat and scarf. She nodded as a response when his orbs met her own but felt fear when he paused his actions.
He noticed.
“Why are you tense?” She watched as a glint of suspicion sparked in his eyes. “{Name}...Do you need to tell me something?”
“D-Dinner's ready! I'll fix you a plate, love!” Dodged a bullet. At least for now.
Levi possessed the ability to read her like an open children's book. He knew exactly when something was wrong very quickly and very easily.
And she knew running to fix him a plate wasn't going to silence his suspicions. Just as she thought, he followed her into the kitchen and watched as she nervously made him his own plate.
He waited patiently until she sat down across from him and then opened his mouth to repeat his thoughts from earlier. “What's wrong, {Name}.” It was more of a command to tell him than a question.
Her heart was beating one thousand beats a minute and she began to wonder if he could hear it from across the table. It didn't help that he was staring at her with those cold, piercing eyes of his.
“I-I have something important to tell you, Levi..” She began as she forced her words up her throat. “Since we are married, I know I have to be as honest as I can be...So, I-I won't sugar coat it.”
His hand held the tea that was set next to his meal and he allowed the liquid to run down his throat...even as he drank, his eyes didn't dare leave her.
“Levi...I-I'm..” Come on, spit it out! He is her husband, he was going to be with her forever so there was no need to be nervous.. “I'm pregnant with our first child!” She spat as quickly as she could, getting some weight off her shoulders since she confessed.
Levi caught her words despite the speed she threw them out at. And he was stunned beyond belief.
The surprise in his irises made her stomach churn in the fear of just what might happen next..but he soon regained his calm composure and set his tea glass down.
The silence made it hard to breathe and she was glad he broke it before she went crazy. “I'm glad...” She averted her gaze to the visage of her husband.
“I want a child with you, {Name}.” He admitted, those steel eyes softening for the first time since their marriage.
Levi removed his hand from the cup to intertwine her fingers with his own. A gesture of love he only made behind closed doors. “Don't be afraid to tell me anything, understand?”
Finally, {Name} allowed a wave of relief to wash her negativity away and she moved from her chair to embrace her husband. “I understand...” Like always, he became tense at her caring touch but his muscles soon relaxed and he rested against her just for a moment before mumbling a barely audible 'I love you' as he inhaled her sweet scent.
May I meet you soon, my yet unseen child
“Yea. She's having the baby right now. You need to get here as soon as possible, Hanji. Tell the others to, I need to be in there with her.” He clicked off his cell and continued to pace back and forth in the hall in front of her room.
He could hear her screams of pain and the doctors voices outside the door and it made him cringe. Just her being in pain made him sick to his stomach.
“Come on, dammit..” He looked up at the clock and cursed yet again. Any minute now...Any minute his child will be born into the world.
“Levi! We drove as fast as we could! How is everything going?” Petra questioned, Eld, Gunther, and Auruo trailed behind the young strawberry blonde.
“I don't know yet. It's been four hours since we got here.” Levi ran a hand through his black strands. “Where the hell is Hanji and Erwin?”
“Here!” The four-eyes called out as she dragged behind her blue balloons with 'It's a Boy!' written all over them. Erwin himself had flowers and a teddy bear ready to present to Levi's exhausted wife and newborn.
“Dear god..” The male hissed as the two pranced up to him. Hanji gave him a big squeeze as a congrats and held out the obnoxious balloons. “It's a celebration, Levi! Lighten up a bit! You have a baby coming into the world! Hey, Petra? Did you bring any champagne for the occasion?”
“We can celebrate after I find out my fucking wife is okay, shitty glasses.” The door to the room burst open then. “Sir, Your wife is starting to deliver. Do you want to help?” His answer was obvious. In seconds, he was by her side and holding her hand as tight as he could.
He hated seeing her in this much pain but he knew she would be fine as long as he coaxed her through it all. “Deep breaths..” He whispered to her as she groaned from the agonizing pain that wrenched in her core.
In a matter of hours, a cry rung through the thick air of the hospital room. The cry of his baby boy. The doctor handed his child to him, the baby bundled in a blanket. It made small noises and gave off an aura of pure innocence. He couldn't bring himself to look away from the child.
{Name} opened her tired lids to watch as her husband held their child close to his chest and allowed a faint smile to cross her features. Never in her life has she seen such happiness ignite in his eyes.
I see myself reflected in your big eyes
“Leeeviiii..” A whine escaped her lungs at the sound of her crying child. She was so exhausted from caring for the child all day long that she needed her rest. As much as she hated to awaken her equally tired husband, she knew he'd do it for her.
And she was exactly right.
With a groan, he scooted out of the warmth of his bed and headed to his sobbing son. “Hey, sometimes you have to let Mom and Dad sleep, got it brat?” Despite the harsh tone he had, he cradled the child softly and placed the bottle to his lips. He waited patiently as the boy drank away all his tears and became content once again before placing him gently back in bed.
“Be good for the rest of the night. And tomorrow too, since I'm going to have to watch you.” He left with that and practically collapsed in his bed to sleep until dawn.
Once morning arrived, he got up early to feed his child once again. “Hey, Are you really going to the store now?” He asked while watching his wife slip on warm clothes. “I might as well, Levi. I rather get everything we need for the week now.”
He nodded at her response and grabbed her his coat. “You're going to need more than that to stay warm.” Levi looked away at the grin that played on her lips.
“Ah, I'm so lucky to have such a loving husband, hm?” She took a hold of his cheeks and turned his head so she could place a sweet peck on his lips. “I love you, Levi. I'll be back soon, okay? And you! Be a good boy for Daddy alright?” She kissed her son's head, taking a moment to smell that scent only a baby had. A scent no one could ever forget.
Someday, I may not be able to watch you from afar
Levi ran as fast as he feet could carry him. This couldn't be happening. Not her. Anyone but her. The love of his life...
He slammed his hands on the nurse's desk, his child strapped to his back fast asleep. “My wife! She was in a car accident! What room is she in?! Give me the damn room!”
“Sir, Calm down. Just take a sea-”
“Take a seat?! You're telling me to sit the fuck down when my wife is in there dying?! You can go to hell for all I care. I'll find it myself.” He marched past the woman, running into the back room and slamming against anyone who was in his way.
He peeked into each and every door he passed, hoping to find her wrapped up and alive. But when he pushed open the doors to the room where they were operating on her...He made it just in time to hear a prolonged beep that expressed the passing of the only woman he ever loved.
And perhaps, it'll be a bit lonely
“Daddy..?” Small footsteps echoed through the home, his son peeking through the crack in the door where his father was.
“Shit..” He heard his father say words which aunt Hanji said were 'naughty' but he didn't dare scold his Daddy for such language, he only watched as his father held his head in his hands.
“Why did you leave me, huh? It's all my fault isn't it? I shouldn't have let you go so early..I knew the ice on the road would be thicker that time of morning...Why the hell didn't I stop you?!” He squeezed his eyes shut.
“It's been three years...and I still fucking think you'll walk in with a bag of groceries and a big smile on your face. Shit, I miss that smile.” Levi had yet to notice the tears forming in his son's eyes as he watched his father.
“I love you, {Name}. I never told you that enough. I should have. I fucking should have. Dammit, I love you so, so much. You were my world. My everything. My wife. My son's mother. My savior...and now you're gone..”
His son now knew who he was talking to. It was Mommy.
“He's grown a lot, ya know? It won't be long until he's in preschool. He's just as smart as you were too. Kid's gonna be an Einstein.”
“D-Daddy..” Levi turned his head quickly at the whimper. There his son was, hot tears rolling down such soft cheeks. He slowly pushed open the door and ran to jump on the bed with his father.
“Don't be sad, Daddy! Stop saying mean things about yourself, Daddy! Y-You said Mommy doesn't like when people are sad so you should stop being sad for Mommy!”
Levi's eyes widened at his son's words. The kid had a big heart just like his Mother did. “Yea..You're right I should...”
But please, live happily
“...While we're talking about Mommy..” Levi looked out the window, watching as bees tended to the flowers on that warm spring day and waiting for his son to finish his sentence.
“Daddy...Can you tell me everything there is to know about Mommy? Oh! A-And, sing Mommy's song to me too!”
