The respective societies that name these have no humor That doesn't stop me from a hearty laugh Check out this Mardi Gras image [link] Wish I could see/hear your reaction.

My first thought was Liz Taylor with a beard during private time with Micheal Jackson..... but i don't know why that came to mind....lol
...but shame on us ...this is obviously a costume of somebody's mother somewhere...

OMG, Liz Taylor. From when I was a kid, only the nuns were allowed full beards, horn rims, and metal rulers.

Thank you, no match has turned up so far, so a few inquiries were made with western wildflower experts . . . we'll see.

You are most welcome, my dear friend. I will look around, too, and see what I can "dig up"...

I found one image on Flickr wild flower images showing a partial match with "alpine shooting star", but the color was different.

The flower you took a picture of is discussed on WIKI, the Dodecatheon alpinum [link] . Neat flower, aye.

Yes, saw that one on Flickr (alpine shooting star) and while it's the closest taxonomic match, both color, habitat elevation, and petal shape were off, but not far enough to rule it out of the phylum. Much as camellias can have wide variations, they're still camellias. Thanks for looking . . . it appears we're batting 2 for 2.
