Description Some strange, naked trees at Cedar Breaks Park, Utah, that reminded me eerily of skeletons, although they were somehow beautiful, too.

Strange indeed haha - love the funky contrast in this, very cool angle as well! They look very imposing.

Thank you. Yeah, the whole forest was actually a bit spooky, it was if the trees were made of bone. *shiver*

I really like the duotone style of it. Intense colors and shading. The linework is very interested. Calling myself a minimalist, there is a little bit too much going on here, but this is personal preference, of course. Nontheless, outstanding picture!

Nun ja, ich konnte die anderen BΓ€ume ja nicht einfach fΓ€llen! Da bin ich denn doch zu sehr Naturliebhaberin, um fΓΌr ein Foto einen ganzen Wald zu plΓ€tten.

I really like this shot but I think you might have turned up the white value a bit too much, the trees look a bit burnt out. Also, is it me or is the shot slightly out of focus? Anyway, aside from that, really good work!

Katzilla13 In reply to pyro-tom [2008-07-29 14:31:56 +0000 UTC]

I actually didn't touch anything when I made this photo; it's just the way these trees were. Kinda creepy, that's why I gave it that title. I'm not sure if it's out of focus though. It is not brilliantly sharp because it was an exposure made from slide, so that might be the problem. I've gone digital only for a little over year now.

Thanks for your comment!

How interesting! In that case, I take back what I said, apart from it being a good piece of work!

LOL, thank you. That was a very special forest. Unfortunately, I only had a snap-away camera back then. I'd like to go back there with my new equipment today...

I thought the white trees were amazing. I had never seen anything like it, and of course, the clear mountain air helped to bring them out nicely on the photo.

Do you take pictures in your own backyard or do you travel?

Unfortunately, my own backyard looks NOTHING like this, so yes, I travel. Where I live, there's some nice forest and lakes, but it is all very flat and, well, a little boring.

Thank you. *blushes* At the moment, I'm experimenting with older shots, because the weather has been HORRIBLE for almost three weeks now, and there simply was no use in getting out and getting completely soaked. I definitely hope things will get better, soon, or I'll bang my head against a wall long enough to put it all behind me (just kidding).

Honestly, the last few days have been very weird here! Usually, February is the coldest month here, and already we've got sunshine, 12Β°C and the birds are singing and building their nests!!!

It's a little too early to be building nests, crazy birds My Dad and I built a minnie sled, hopefully the cold front will bring some snow. My dog Haus has been pulling it around, hauling sticks for our firplace. I'll have to take a picture of this, it is too cute!

Katzilla13 In reply to 1984MLR [2008-02-14 12:34:08 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I tried to tell them that, but they wouldn't listen! Anyway, temperatures are getting lower these days, so perhaps they will catch the hint. Are you going to post a picture of your dog pulling the sled? That must be awesome! I get angry whenever I see people with Huskies here in the city, because they usually don't have any idea how much attention these dogs need! You can't satisfy them by walking them for an hour a day!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

1984MLR In reply to Katzilla13 [2008-02-19 19:31:20 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I'll post some pictures of Haus pulling, once I get some film Oh yes, Huskies need a job to burn off their high energy. I work Haus twice a day, I work him hard during the winter and then in the summer I lay off a little, because Huskies have two coats and you have to be careful not to over heat them. When you can tell a husky is satisfied, he'll show his long fat tongue At dog shows, they always say you should get a dog that will fit your lifestyle and I think Haus fits my lifestyle, since I love working out in the weather and all.

Sounds like Haus has "Husky-heaven on earth" at your place. That is so much better than the sad fellas I see here in the city.

If I had the huskies in your neighborhood, I'd give them a complete workout Do you have any pets of your own?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Katzilla13 In reply to 1984MLR [2008-02-20 18:21:02 +0000 UTC]

That would make those huskies VERY happy, so come on over!

I don't have a pet now (it's hard when you work all day iand would be very selfish of me, I think), but I used to have a dog for 13 years; a black lab crossbreed (presumably, his mother was a Spaniel, but it was hard to tell, because he looked like a Lab, only quite a bit slimmer). His name was "Charlie" and I loved him dearly.

You got mail! No, seriously, I emailed you a picture of Charlie. I didn't want to post it here, because the quality is pretty meciocre... but it was of course not what this photo was about.

thank you so much for the compliment, too; it really means a lot to me. Unfortunately no, I don't earn my moeny with photography, and I really don't have much of a clue of a clue about it, too ( too much math and physics for me). I'm trying to improve though, and feel that since I bought the Sony, things have really changed. You learn so much better with a digital camera!

Awe he has a sweet face, may what big ears he has Charlie looks like a fun dog to hang out with. Your welcome, some of your photos look like they should be in a calendar, have you ever thought about getting with a calendar or a post card company?
I'm getting my first digital camera soon, it arrives on Monday, I can't wait! I'll be using it to take pictures of my art and putting them on eBay.

Yeah, he was a cute bugger when he was little (and a nice-looking dog when he was grown). I sometimes really miss him, although it's been 14 years since he died (we had him for 13 years). And yeah, he was a lot of fun, really keen on messing around with you and play rough, and he didn't mind if one played rough with him, as well. Only thing that was a bit problematic was that he was quite dominant with other male dogs, because we got him from an animal shop, and he was the only survivor from his litter, so in that important phase when they learn about social behaviour, he had none to learn from. Still, I loved him very much.

Thanks so much for your calendar idea, I've been thinking about it repeatedly, actually. The thing is that I couldn't use most of my animal photos, because most of these are from zoo animals, and you can't make any money from them (because of the rights). As for my other photos: printing a calendar is quite expensive, and I wouldn't know whether I'd sell enough to cover my costs.

Good luck with your new camera, I totally understand that you're excited! Which one is it?

1984MLR In reply to Katzilla13 [2008-02-22 16:40:43 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, Haus is sometimes dominant, but I am the pack leader and I tell him what I what him to do I watch a lot of the show called The Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan, he shows some good tips on how to dominate a dog.
I'm getting a Nikon D80. It's funny that some of the Nikon cameras can't automatic focus my Nikon lens, I have a G lens so I would have to find a camera body that would automaticaly work a G lens. To me a Nikon should work on a Nikon, you know what I mean.

That's really strange. I'm really satisfied with my Sony A100 with the Minolta lenses, though. No such problems.

I wish more people would really learn about dog behaviour before they bought one, that's for sure!
