Description Yes this is a take on the song "Video killed the radio-star." As strange as this sounds i actually had a dream about this My friend keeps on telling me that film is a "dying" practice, yet some of my all time favorite work has been on film. I think film, just like the radio will develop into something completely different and special. Thats just my $0.02

I had to pull out all my big guns for this shot,
D70
2 tripods w/ quick release plates
2 SB800s w/ diffusion domes
32" reflector (silver side)
White paper
Sony Cybershot P7
Kodak TMAX 100
Hoya Circular polarizer
Nikkor 18-70mm w/ lens hood

Shot in RAW edited/converted in PS7

I hope you enjoy!

Viva la film!

I like film. It teaches you to take more careful thought when setting up shots.

Amen... amen.. sometimes all this digital stuff just gets in the way. NOTHING really beats a full manual camera and some good old Illford Delta 100

Just looking through your gallery I can tell that I like how your thought processes work. You have some great and crazy original ideas. And you communicate those ideas very well. Job well done.

hehe, you captured the sentiment brilliantly, the thing I find a shame is that the practices are dying, for a lot of people photoshop has replaced the use of filters and stuff, which I think is a real shame. anyway that's just my oppinion.

KavaWava In reply to triksy [2005-05-04 01:45:26 +0000 UTC]

yeah i totally know what you mean, i dont think photoshop will be able to replace the good 'ol practice of good filters, clean negatives, and great enlarger techniques peace!

incredible concepy, I really identify with it...

but hey, a digital camera only sells so good because you don't have to spend a fortune you don't have on films and development (its why I do it selmdomly and not using a digi.. )
great work

incredible work I love the negative white, it is so clean and very futuristic like to match the digital aspect. I love film but I too am just a digi photographer. But indeed alot of great work is on film. I really like how you show the LCD display and the film torn apart. Interesting concept with a great inspiration title from a great song

You're so right. Both of my parents worked at Kodak Norway, and they lost their jobs when the company was shut down. There's only one Kodak left in skandinavia now (apart from the little shops with one-hour developing) and it's a lot more expensive and takes longer to develope when sending it to sweden and that one will most likely be shut down as well.

So it is for a fact a fading part of the industry and I love the way you've captured this. great composition and colours, amazing work!

Great picture, nice concept, BUT!!!

You've spoiled T-MAX 100!!! and well i'm a great film fan! i really wish to fav it but i can't .... just cant!

And i'm a bit angry on you now. So you have to comment on some more of my Dev's. In that case i'll forgive you

Once again - great idea and it's professionally done.

I sometimes am scared that digital will overtake film. Any jackass with a good digital camera can take high quality, superb pictures. my mother tells me that instead of focusing on quality, photos will begin to focus on content again. And they will thus evolve once more into something amazing.

But I do still love film. There's something more personal about it, even seeing it developed. There's a roughness, a naturalness, and the photographers touch truly goes into it. At least, that's how I feel.

This is a thought provoking peice.

Whew, I love this piece! Though I must say that digital and film are, of course, companions, not enemies! Everything has its place. This is more DD material.

Being a film shooter, though, I would have to say that film will never really die, per se... It will become a niche market. Which is fine, being I have a love affair with film...
