Description AU History: Geoffrey was built in 1962 by British Railways and worked there for much of his life, being a very friendly face to everyone, even Steam Engines who he did feel sorry and guilty for replacing eventually… Back then he didn’t have a name but was referred to only by his number: 47111. Around November of 1983, he was resting at the Steamworks in Crovan’s Gate when he was ordered to help a stricken James to the works and soon the two become good friends and 47111 visits Sodor every now and then to help out and then a year later he had an accident.
Around the beginning of 1986, a DMU set ran into 47111 as he was stationary at Preston smashing through the No.2 end cab. The seriously damaged engine was then withdrawn, and after his accident news soon spreads to Sodor and James suggested to the Fat Controller for him to please save the diesel. It would turn out the controller himself had been planning to put 47111 on trial at the works, but with the accident having happened, he decided to purchase him from BR in return for rebuilding his cab. 47111 was bought to Sodor by the next year and it took a long time for him to be fixed and have his back cab rebuilt. Soon he returned to service and is now a regular worker on the NWR and has been given the name Geoffrey (Geoff for Short). As the first diesel bought to live and work at the Steamworks, Geoff is their Recovery Unit, going wherever a stricken Mainline engine or train is in dire need of rescue, but when he’s not needed he can sometimes go about the works yard, shunting some rolling stock (Damaged or repaired) into either the shops or onto sidings ready for pickup later on. Not only does he rescue stranded trains, but he also helps out the permanent way sometimes or brings in deliveries of engine parts either to the works or to the Mainland for use on heritage Railways, and he often has a friendly attitude to anyone he meets.

(The works diesel I didn't mind being an Awdry character at all, but I liked him even more thanks to Wildnorwester expanding his character further, and even giving him what I thought was a great name, other than Wendell from Extended Railway Series... Plus the idea that he was a scrapped Class 47 in real life sold his inclusion to the NWR Roster quite well.)
