Description The long, hot Summers here in Oz sometimes seem endless ~ but there is much floral beauty to be found when venturing outside and away from the airconditioners! This large and lovely bush flowers heavily every year in my garden and I wanted to capture the top buds with my new camera.

Thank you so much, sweetie ~ for your lovely comments and the ! Although it's been Summer here in my part of Oz and it's technically Autumn now, we've had a continuous heatwave with two consecutive weeks of temps in the mid to high 30's (C) with high humidity. Please give us some of your cool weather for relief! Coco

I know from my time in Florida how the summer could drive me mad.
It was like endless and you never felt you could breathe properly -
so I do understand how it must be. Florida always having very
high humidity too.

But now being back in Denmark it's the winters that drags on and
on with cold cold winds. The last week it has been blowing so hard
that being outside was like minus 22 (C).

Both is bad - so let us hope for you getting a cool autumn and
us getting a somewhat warm spring

I'm from Melbourne, Australia ~ and I recall that Florida also has a Melbourne ~ both cities seem to have very hot Summers! Even though I complain about the heat here, I really don't think I could survive Denmark's low temperatures ~ I would turn into a little iceblock! After surviving two weeks of temps in the high 30s, it has dropped to a bearable 29C today and a decent night's sleep was possible at last! I hope your weather warms up a little, sweetie! Coco

Yes that is true - Florida has its Melbourne too -
it was spelled a bit different - but do not remember now.

Well the weather here in Denmark is slowly warming up -
today we have 1 C in the plus - but yesterday it snowed
all day. Snow can be beautiful - but now we have had so
much of it since November - so you can hardly see the
beauty here in March - LOL ! Regarding iceblocks - lol -
I have felt like one for months now - always freezing
all into the bones.

I am glad to hear the temps at your place in the world
is cooling down even just a bit - at least it is bearable.

Yes, hon ~ cooling down a little, but just till next week and then it warms up again. I believe Melbourne is spelled the same in both places, but both as humid as each other, in season. I can sure understand how you are frozen to the bone, you poor thing ~ if it gets below 17C here, I put the heaters on! I've had very little experience with snow ~ as it doesn't snow here, but I went once to our 'alps' ~ it's just like the stuff that used to be in old-fashioned fridge freezers! Coco

LOL at the snow being what is inside the freezer

Well .. today it has been sunny and kind of
pre-springy . . but still minus 1 -- it should
warm up a little in the coming week - one degree
at a time. Still that is better than the snow -
the birds were chipping a lot today I bet they
are looking forward to the real spring too

I just checked - and yes Melbourne in Florida is
spelled the same way as yours. It is a bit south
of Cape Canaveral - you know where the rockets
take off from.

Coco - you've certainly got the idea with these flower photographs. I think you have mastered the basic techniques with the camera - exposure, light and shade, sharpness, depth of field, and your usual flair for composition shines through - triple heads against single blue background, clever little "repoussoir" of out of focus buds at the bottom left with open space on the right for your signature. The colour balance of pink versus blue with green leaves (and dashes of yellow) is classic. Varying textures add to the image with smooth sky, veined leaves and detailed flower heads. I can't think of any major point of criticism. A niggle might be a slight lack of sharpness in the pinks, and perhaps the use of a spray to add some water droplets.

One technique that can be very effective if there is plenty of Sun and shadow is to get, say, the stamen of a flower head with its shadow against a leaf. That would not be easy here, but might be something to look for.

Really Impressive.

Thank you, David ~ you always give such wonderful feedback ~ I appreciate it so much! I'm really happy with the camera and am trying different things with it. I noticed the slight lack of sharpness in the 'pinks' too, but it was caused by a breeze and this was the clearest shot I could get. I was unable to use a spray as those buds were about 18 ft. up, and I haven't mastered the art of levitation as yet! Cheers, Coco

Crepe Myrtle is an amazing plant, and with magnificent blooms, in a rainbow of colors too! You captured its essence too! Your camera has done you justice!
Well done!

Thanks so much for your lovely comments, dear ~ and for the too. Although it's deciduous and rather bare for much of the year, it bursts with colour in late Summer and totally dominates my small courtyard garden. Unfortunately, it doesn't last in a vase for more than a day! Coco

We have them allover the place here. They are used as street and highway decorations. The white ones look like snow when they start shedding their snowflake sized blooms. WOW!

Wonderful! I though I bought a white one, but it is sort of a lavender-pink. I have been able to vary the color shades by using some different fertilizers. Plus, as they blooms age, the color begins to fade a bit. I also love the peeling bark on them.

Yes, the peeling bark is great ~ and when you peel it, the trunk is silky smooth underneath! Coco
