Water barraged my bare skin

Draped itself along my curves
And
It looked like my skin was singing

I felt guilty,
For feeling alive without you,

I don’t think you were there when I learned to tie my shoes,
Or when I stopped being afraid of the dark,

And
Sometimes I see you in the dark,
But I feel ashamed that I’m afraid,

And
You weren’t there when she said I wasn’t good enough,
So I believed her,

And
I said I’d never be like her,
But I still walk on the tips of my feet,

And
I still smoke more than I should,
But I’m safe in her ignorance,

My wrists still feel bound,
Because I’m tied to you,

Today I noticed the uneven red bricks on our veranda,
That a stranger arranged carelessly,
