_______________________________________________________

As the two lionesses left to fetch the runaways, Jawara stalked toward the two slave cubs. Everything in his demeanor showed violence and anger, but deep down he knew he didn't want to hurt them. The two cubs cowered in fear as he loomed over them. Walk now. he snarled, indicating toward the distant hill. When they hesitated, Jawara threw a paw at them and swatted Tojo as he was the closest of the two. He kept his claws in though; he really didn't want to hit him. I said move maggots. The gray male followed them up and over the hill, pushing and shoving them around roughly to make the other slaves and overseers believe in his act. After they made it far enough away to be out of ear shot, the male grunted to get the youngsters' attention. They slowed and turned to look at him; they were so afraid of him. He could see it in their eyes, in the way they held themselves. They knew what was coming... at least, they thought they did.

His muzzle loosened as his mask fell away; instead of violence and anger, he now showed sadness, pity, and remorse. Jawara could see they were confused; he slowly sat down and let out a sigh. Come, sit. His voice was gentle, coaxing; he gave the ground next to him a light pat before dragging the paw back to himself. After a few moments of hesitation, Chakuma inched toward the older male; it hurt Jawara seeing this cub, who should be running around free with no worries, cautiously approaching him with his head down. As the brown cub finally sat down closer to him, the more timid Tojo started to inch toward him as well. He stopped next to his friend, but appeared too afraid to actually sit. I'm... Jawara stuttered, unsure what to say, I'm sorry... The cubs seemed even more confused now, which was understandable. I really wish things could be different. After glancing over his shoulder to make sure no one was around, he continued, Promise me that you will listen and obey, do as you're told. Don't ask for things you know you aren't going to get. I won't always be here to keep the other Overseers from hurting you... or worse... killing you. Behave. Watch your tongues. I don't think my soul could bare anymore young deaths.

A long sigh escapes his muzzle as he looks down on them; they still seemed unsure, unable to fully believe him. The cubkiller. In their eyes, they were alone with the notorious cubkiller. I don't want to do it... but the others will expect me to have punished you. Questioning authority is punishable by beating and food taken away for three days. He watched as the fear intensified in their eyes yet again. How it broke his heart. Being that you are both so young still and this heat has been hurting the slave numbers, I will drop the charges down to a beating and food taken away for only one day. They cowered away from him, knowing what was coming next. I'm so sorry boys... but you need to keep quiet about this talk. If you speak to anyone about what was said to you right now or how I acted, you will be punished for lying and rebellion. His voice was stern, but not cruel. He couldn't let word get out that he was soft on them.

Jawara slowly stood, flexing his claws. He closed his eyes for a moment, readying himself for what he was about to do. When he opened his eyes, he saw that the two boys were cowering close together with their eyes shut. What happened next, happened mainly in a blur to which Jawara was familiar with. The dead feeling inside. A part of him stayed his paws so not to hurt them too badly as War punished them. He managed to hold back his claws so only the tips scratched the young bodies. War battered them around for what felt like an eternity, but in reality it only lasted a minute.

He then led the two battered and bruised cubs back up and over the hill to where the rest of the slaves had been gathered together. His jaw was set, his teeth clenched, a wild look in his eyes. Jawara was now fully gone, exhausted from holding War back. Vurugu and Uduak had also just appeared with the two runaways; just as instructed, they were brought back only bruised and sore, with a few scratches here and there. Jawara would have punished them by taking away food for a few days, saying that beating them would not be a good idea because of the heat and drought- but not War. That isn't how War does things. Yes- their food rations were taken from them for the next five days, but War decided to give them a public beating that they soon wouldn't forget.

Continuation to this picture I did awhile back:

This is Jawara actually dealing with the cubs as he said he would in the previous picture. Drew this not too long after finishing the first part, but only got to coloring it now. >.>
This is to show some insight into how his mind works, that he isn't always able to control the monster inside. It seems so cruel that he'd let his guard down for a moment and be nice to the cubs, only to punish them moments later- but there isn't anything else he could do, not to his knowledge anyways. The law is the law as Ghariki sets it and he must obey or possibly lose his life.

As I did with the other picture- I tried to write a story for this without controlling other peoples' characters too much, just enough to make a story.

Oh- and yeah, I reused the background. Didn't feel like drawing a new one. >.>

Oh my gosh I really don't know what to say    me and my friend blowber just read the whole story and we were both shocked of how much effort you put into this. I enjoyed reading every bit of this, did any one ever that you are such an amazing writer. I can't even write like that unless I am writing an essay. The picture fits so well with the story line and your style of the characters is very unique, btw I love your character's design and it is great to learn more about him. and trust me they will try their best not to get into some more trouble X3   Thank you so much for including our characters in your picture you have no idea  much this means to me.

Thanks! I'm glad you like it. I've been writing for many years and role-playing for about 4-5 years (though stopped for about 6 years until recently). It comes at a price though- I absolutely suck at math; can only do basic math without much help and even then I still count on my fingers despite being 21 years old. lol xD
