Description

I had a lot of fun with this. It has quite a simple background but this presented its own challenges, in particular the stone slabs were actually quite difficult to get right, while I didn’t have that problem with the water which is odd water is usually very difficult. I was enjoying painting this so much that I spent more time rendering the face, hair and eyes. I’ve tried to give the eyes a little bit more depth than I usually would, although it's probably hard to see.

I actually picked this reference because I wanted to practice drawing hands and feet. I know it’s a weird reason and sure I could just draw hands and feet alone, but it's quite boring and I want to see if I can make them look natural in the rest of the frame. I’ve found paying more attention to shadows around them rather than worrying about fingernails makes them nicer to look at. The foot was especially interesting to paint as there’s a lot going on here: blue reflected light from the pool, reds in the skin and the sunlight on the top.
