Description Last spam of the evening (morning?), and then I'm going to bed, I promise. -_______-;;;

I recently reread A Wizard of Earthsea, and following that, read the rest of the Earthsea books for the first time. I can't express how utterly beautiful they are, and how much I love them. I couldn't *not* draw something from them. Yet anything too overwrought would be inappropriate for prose that is so perfect in its restrained, quiet simplicity, so elegantly terse and yet never juvenile. So here is my offering, such as it is.

Sparrowhawk and his boat, Lookfar.

I bought this print at Tekko and now it's up on my wall. It's awesome and I plan to re-read the series soon.

It was such a pleasure to meet you at Rob-Con over the weekend! I didn't pick up a card with your DA Page but I knew if I typed Lookfar I'd find you!

When I saw this in your gallery, at a passing glance I thought to myself "that looks like something from Earthsea!" and I was delighted to find that I was right. Great piece!

Your art is AMAZING thank u for sharing, being home bound at a relatively young age, I don't get to see much art or handsome guys for that matter so thanks for that...it lifts my spirits.

Very lovely. You captured the stillness so well. It reminds me that I have to read the Earthsea series too heh. I have far too many books to read and write lol.

I love this picture you did. For me it really encaptures the simple, quiet beauty of the book. I saw the picture before I saw the name and knew it was Lookfar. You've inspired me to do some art work.

EEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeee! More Ged, please!

Tombs of Atuan, man. That one's so awesome.

Also, have you seen anything of the Sci-Fi channel's version of Earthsea? If you haven't, avoid it. It is made of suckfail.

Gah, DA is stoopid.

ANYWAY, yes. Watched about half a minute, heard characters casually calling each other by their true names, was like OH HELL NO, and changed the channel. I figured, if they couldn't get something so central as that right, the whole thing must be crap.

Thank goodness you changed the channel. They destroyed the two first books completely by stuffing them into the one movie. And Kristin Kreuk who plays Tenar, well lets just say she was NOT the right person. I could go on and on and on about it, but I wont. I'll just tell you it was the worst thing ever and the people that got their hands on it should be shot for destroying it so completely.

LeGuin posted a violently scathing review of it, called "Earthsea in Clorox," since they randomly decided to make all the characters white. You can read it here: [link]

The first two books are my favorites, definitely. And I don't usually fall for female characters as easily, butbut, Tenar.

The soft greys give a nice misty effect to it, like he's sailing off to Selidor or something.

Man, I should read those books again some time.

It's probably been 20+ years since I read those books, but I instantly knew the subject of your piece even before reading your commentary. Good job.

And maybe it's past time I dug the Earthsea books out once again.

Oooh~ Sparrowhawk! I don't think I would have needed the title to know exactly what this was from. What a lovely piece.

Damn, now you're making me want to get back to the series. I started re-reading A Wizard of Earthsea a few months ago but faltered and then abandoned it for the first "A Song of Ice and Fire" volume, which I also abandoned and now I'm reading nothing. I think it's high time I went back to Sparrowhawk.
