There is indeed, a roughly 300-page story, no less. 
If you like Pratchetean comedy and Neil Gaiman-esque combination of the supernatural/fantasy with the mundane, it's a lovely, entertaining and thought-provoking read. Plus, there's like twenty years worth of fanart and fanfiction and a still active cozy fandom for it. C:
