What an atmospheric picture~
It feels like latter afternoon where the sun's setting, and the forest, in the chill of Autumn, starts to get colder at dusk.
However, Spencer doesn't mind, since they're breathing in all the life that's setting--all in contemplation~
Aside from the beauty of it all, you've got an interesting choice of colors with the warmer reds/pinks in the background and the olive green shades in the foreground.
In my art appreciation class, apparently it's more common to have cool colors faded in the background, whereas warm colors would be in the foreground; and you did the opposite here. But that's how this picture is such an ethereal piece! <3

Your comments are always so full of care and thought that I wanted to wait until I had time to really dedicate myself to replies! It’s fairly late but I had the impulse so I reply, finally :’D
i avtuslly didn’t know that there was a foreground/background distinction in many pieces! Looking at traditional landscapes now I can kind of see it. I wanted to emulate the warm glow of foliage when light passes through leaves instead of between them- I was watching a video by an artist I admire a lot when I did this, and I was following his general method! Start establishing values and build up with color where needed, so I wasn’t exactly paying attention. I might try this again deliberately and see if I can do the same thing!
Thank you so so much, and for the little bit of art knowledge as well! It’s something I can learn from for sure!

Dude i love when you experiment cause the results are always fantastic. I really like how you didnt clean the tips of the trees either, their blending in to the sky is a really nice effect AND HOLY SHIT THE COLOURS ARE SO SPOT ON i love where your style is headed, its become so lovely.

finally going through the comments ;v;
Thanks so much!! I really love experimenting since it lets me let go of the reins a bit - I'm very controlling over the coloring process so stepping back and doing something completely new is a good way to loosen up. I think I learned a lot here!! I followed the general process of a speedpaint by Marco Bucci, and I think I like this enough to do it for other landscapes. Plus I think i have some feel for where I can let go of control for a bit, keep things loose and sketchy~

Kay!!!! Your art is literally gorgeous 24/7 ❤❤❤❤❤ This scene is way too scenic and relaxing and I love it!!! I've been MIA from DA for too long and it's so satisfying to come back and see your amazing artwork <3 The use of colors in this and the textures of the scenery work really well and I just want to be sitting with the person there uwu

ANNA thank you!! I had a lot of fun working on this one, and I look forward to trying more pieces like this! I want to get good at more impressionistic art for sceneries since it might save me time and be an interesting balance with more tightly rendered characters, so I’m really glad this is a good start!!
They would be happy to have company, I can assure~

HOT diggity DAMN you keep amazing me Kay!! Oh man scenes like this with heavy contrast and really dark shadows is something I'm dying to learn, and you pulled it off so fantastically! I'm in love with this whole scene, it feels like I could just step out there and join my friend Spencer chatting about science things as the sun sets~
Amazing job!!

HOOOO BOY RIN this was a trip! It was fun and also hard since I told myself to turn my brain off before I did anything. Thank you so much!! Also the hard contrasts were something I did while following a speedpaint by an artist I really admire, Marco Bucci! He has a YouTube channel with Some Quality™ Advice, and I feel like my art is better when I draw listening to him. He has an interesting technique where he lays it values before even dealing with color :0
your friend Spencer has so much to tell you!!! Like for example today they found a rock that looks like a butt

Oooooooooo I am looking at him now, I'll have to try some of his tips!
Quality advice indeed!!

Thank u Spencer please show me this butt rock

Hey Kay,

I just wanted to say that I was really moved when I first saw this and would like to commend you on a job well done! I love the blocks of colors and the shapes of the tree limbs, I am fascinated by the almost ethereal blur surrounding them- it’s misty and dreamlike and makes me think of early morning walks between summer and autumn when the steam rises from the ground… it’s ghostly, beautiful, and mystifying and you rendered it well with your color choices (my favorite color combinations, in fact), beautiful sky, and Spencer’s scale compared to their environment… I love how reflective this piece is. It’s a quiet meditation and it’s well deserved, the scenery is really a treat for the eyes. It’s absolutely breathtaking.

Amazing job.

Ahh icy, I am always at a loss for words in replying to your comments because you clearly always spend a lot of time on them and out great care into what you chose to discuss, like you treated viewing art as art itself- it’s always greatly appreciated and I honestly can’t think of anything more profound to say than an earnest Thank You!! I love these scene pieces, especially since Spencer can be quite contemplative if allowed to be. A plant of many talents~
