Thanx
Chi ball was pretty easy - lighting effects in photoshop (render -> light), plus some blurry yellow linee to imitated spreading threads inside of the ball.

Yea, you never know what's inside of a person,

I loved Aikido. I heard alot of the masters fight on their knees. Thats just crazy. I would have loved to see a grandma throw people around like that.

Keiton In reply to shiroboi [2007-08-27 15:38:24 +0000 UTC]

Not only masters, but als students learn how to fight sitting (kneeing).
It comes from the standart samurai sitting position - a samurai had to sit on the floor, lower as his lord, but still be able to protect him.

Wimen are usually much weaker then man, but they can be very quick,
and such an old woman can have a whole load of experience, so you are right - it's worth looking at x)

Aikido seems to be more about using your opponent's motion against them and mastering the human body. I think its one of the most beautiful martial arts. I learned how to sit in Aikido class. When I went to Japan, people kept telling me that I should relax and not to sit so formally. Oh well. Can't please everyone.

Keiton In reply to shiroboi [2007-08-27 15:56:44 +0000 UTC]

Yes, you are right about the way it works.
But there is also Aikido with the sword which is to my mind the most beautiful part of it

How do they sit in japan nowadays? With their legs struck in all directions?

shiroboi In reply to Keiton [2007-08-27 16:10:33 +0000 UTC]

I haven't seen any Aikido with a sword. Do you mean Kendo? When I was at the Imperial Palace in Japan they had an ancient wing of the garden roped off. I could see a kendo match going on inside but i couldn't see much more unfortunately. In formal tea ceremonies they sit like they do in Aikido with right toe over left. I think its the opposite for girls, cant remember though. They just sit indian style or put one leg out to the side. Its hard on me because i have bad circulation. My legs fall asleep.

No, there are Aikido of the hand, of the bo, of the knife and of the sword!
All those have their origin in the battle-fight with all the waspons a samurai has had (knife, spear, sword and his body).

Kendo is also pretty interesting, but it's a bit too violent and unrealistick to me. A hit with a sword means death, and they are just beating each other up, not having the idea of their wooden swords being real weapons, the way we handle it.

I once visites a training session of a Ninjustu school, the one teaching ninjas. Not as a student, of corse, for I am just a bloody beginner, but accompaniing some fellow aikidokas, who participated.

You know, Aikido is deriven from the fight of the Samurai, and Ninjas vere trained to deal with samurais... So it did not took very long, and my fellows were disarmed and "killed". Those ninja-guys have exactly the obverse techniques to those we have. They know how to dodge our swords the best way, and how to disarm us, and how to use the swords taken against us. That was very interesting!
After a time our Aiki-warriors finally learned how the ninjas worked, and did not let them "kill" themselves that easily, but it was clear that ninjas were ways better prepared to the "confrontation" x )

Wow, that is awesome, ninjas versus samurai. It makes sense that the samurai would lose. Ninjas are trained to get the job done and samurai techniques are well known. I'd be interested in seeing a demonstration like that. Time to look on youtube.
