I always get a good laugh, when people start talking about Edward Snowden as hero. Do you honestly believe, that all-powerful NSA, can track every phone on Earth, but can't track their own members? And beside, the information he presented, was already known.

An adage of mine is that you can't play mad libs with the most important part of your argument. In this case, I can reduce it down to the logic of - people say they don't care about things they don't use, but what about related topics?
There isn't really any point to arguing about the statement itself unless you're nit picky about the meaning of it. In my opinion, it reveals more of Snowden than it antagonizes others.
What I see is a young man who used to work around people who've been in his line of work since before he was born, and his definition of "a long time" with regards to seeing change in the system is incredibly off-base from the reality of how much effort and time it takes to instantiate that change. So he decided to betray the promises he'd made and smear his country's name over mass media. This connects perfectly with the two topics he's brought up - privacy, and free speech. The former was related to his work and the latter is the goal he chose to pursue in abandonment of his job. You can't play mad libs with the course his life has taken.
