"Mom!... MOM!... Mooooom!.... MOM!!! ... MOOOO-ooom! MOM!!!!!"
"For heaven's sake, what is it, Reori? I'm trying to cook dinner."
"Why does 'Lana have light hair and I don't?"
Shannon sighed, but didn't take her eyes off her various pots and pans on the stove. Her eight-year-old twins had been testing her patience lately with their constant pestering and bickering. "I don't know, dear. Why do you want to know?"
"Because 'Lana's hair is awesomer than mine!" Reori huffed, crossing his arms and pouting.
"What's wrong with your hair? ... and 'awesomer' is not a word, young man." Using her water powers, Shannon drew some of the water out of a pot of soup to thicken it, transferring the extra water to a new pot for boiling vegetables.
"Be-CAAAAUUSE!" Reori whined, sagging his shoulders dramatically and rolling his eyes. "Mine's BOOOOOR-ing!!"
"Do you want to change it?" Shannon glanced over her shoulder at the jealous expression on her son's face.
Reori paused for a moment. This thought had not occurred to him. He could change his hair color! "Well... Yeah!!" he concluded. "Totally! Can I bleach it?!?" His expression immediately switched to one of excited anticipation, and he began to bounce around the kitchen, almost knocking over a container of cinnamon.
Shannon deftly caught the canister and set it back on the counter. "Of course! Calm down! We'll go tomorrow."
"YAAAAAAAAAAY!!" Reori gave a fist pump in victory and whooshed out of the kitchen, his sock-feet slipping on the linoleum as he ran. He almost hit the door frame but caught himself with a cushion of air.
Shannon could hear him yelling to his sister as he raced down the hall to the den. She sighed, a slight smile turning up the corner of her mouth. "Boys."

Ylana and Reori, circa 1998. Just a funny little thing I scribbled down after making up my mind about Reori's real hair color. His expression was my favorite part to draw, haha. XDDD

Also, am I just a weird nineties kid, or did anyone else have those cute socks with the frills/loopy borders/otherwise decorative cuffs? I think I still have a pair lying around somewhere... Mine are like Ylana's, only yellow... >w>

P.S. I deleted most of the original story accidentally when I made a retard move and closed my browser. OTL Thankfully, I was able to rewrite it, but it's not quite as good as the original.
