This is absolutely stunning. It's dark and mesmerizing, with the depths of indecision written there, so complex... Beautiful work.

beautiful art, I don't know about your career but you definetly have talent ! I've had severe insomnia for 5 months now so this piece really hits close... Do you still suffer from it ?

thank you!
I have no said career, but i've made the conscious decision to chase the dream and hopefully, one day have a career in the field!
In all honesty, ever since, I've slept so much better. I don't feel the anxiety and restlessness and constant eating away of my thoughts at night anymore. I do still struggle to sleep though, but nothing like that anymore.
Is everything okay on your side?

This artwork is from last year, but I want to throw in my own two cents, because I've been there myself, in a way. What it really comes down to is control. Control of your own career. Because the life of a career artist is mostly more unpredictable (and less stable) than a regular full-time job where you are always guaranteed a paycheck. In my experience, people come to you with offers of good intention, but those can fade away if more important things are happening with them at the moment. And if you go back to them, they might say, "Well I'd like to, but I need the money for ........ right now." If you find the right people with the right money, then everything falls into place. But there's faith and chance involved. I couldn't handle that myself, well, that and knowing/feeling this isn't something I want to build my own well-being around. That might not be encouraging, but I think it is close to reality.

By the way, I just found your artwork today and it is really fantastic and unique in its own way. The "right people" would definately want you to do work for them! (But for all I know, this is already behind you by now, lol)

Yes I understand completely. I'm a senior in high school and I still don't know what I should do. Should I peruse art or writing or something "stable"? People tell you all your life to follow your dreams, but then they tell you that you'll get nowhere following your dreams. It's confusing and conflicting. I spend many nights lying awake thinking what the future will hold as well.

I'm sorry to hear that you're also in a similar position. It's so unfair and quite tragic to hear and see the amount of people that are affected by such a dilemma. We should, as individuals, be able to live to enjoy and love what we do, but alas, it's so difficult to decide when being told 'chase your dream, but be wary that your dream is also a dead end and unstable'. It's ridiculous.

Yeah, you summed it up pretty well. All throughout history artists have been put down and called bums for following their dreams. Vincent Van Gogh for instants. He only became really famous when he was dead.
UGH! This is a really depressing topic. Sorry if I'm bringing you down.

Don't be sorry! it's something that nobody can really ignore, because it is true even in today's society. It's looked down upon, but it's something that can't really be changed dramatically or is really in our power. I guess at the end of the day for me, it's not just all about the money. It's about being happy, yknow!

I know exactly how you feel. Being torn between following your (he)art and dreams or choosing the 'secure' ergo more practical ergo boring way to fit into our society's system is tough for a creative soul. Sigh.

I think I'll be unable to sleep for countless hours tonight, this too touched me. Decisions I made today and decisions I'll be making tomorrow, those kind of nights really is troubling but your art really keeps me feel soothing, like I can make it through today and tomorrow, thank you!

I do know those kind of nights.
I have the same problem. I've always been more the creative type. I wanted to do something with music or art, but because there's barely work in it, I didn't do it.
Instead I studied languages to get a job in a company, but because of the high unemployment I can't find a job, so I started a new study this year to become a web designer. Next to that I want to learn more about digital art. I'm not giving up on becoming a better artist. So I'm still chasing a piece of my dream.
I really think you should follow your dream. Your work is amazing!

Aw, that makes me so happy to hear that at the end, you did choose to chasing a part of your dream! It's stories like that, which I find os encouraging and endearing because in the end, it really was a choice to live for what you love ;").
Thank you! It does mean a lot to hear that kind of support.
