Description ~TradeArt for Acinom18~

Perhaps a male character is good for a change. This is my part on an art trade with and this [link] was the reference pic I used. There is a rather serious lack of 3D resources for creating male characters in Poser so you will have to be more lenient on this one.

Base figure used here was Hiro3, and oh well, what else could it had been?

Thanks for coming by!

yup and don't be afraid to do more male characters.. even if those tend to get looked over.. thats there loss.. besides we post for the love of art.. not for how many ppl look at it.. i guess males are ignored becuase they're used to seeing so many females thats my guess.. i don't know why male characters get ignored so much :0

The fact is that male characters DO get ignored, even among the female public, which makes it even more mysterious.

Now that's something I still don't understand. I asked some of them before, and they claim not to know how to draw the male body anatomy and that's why they insist on only making female characters. But that still doesn't explain why they don't support *other* artists to create more male characters. They just don't... O_o

There was a time I was really interested in developing new looks for male characters in my gallery, but all of the efforts ended up in cold shoulders. Considering that more than half of the people who watch me is female, that was kinda disappointing because I only trust female feedback when it comes to male characters. It just didn't happen, not only here but also at other galleries I tried. I know of 2 other artists who have been investing heavily in 3D male characters, and they have been doing a very good job - but not surprisingly they are also getting the cold shoulder...

You can also use DAZ Studio, which has the same basic functionality and it's free.

ken1171 In reply to jadenandfriendsclub [2008-10-31 20:09:03 +0000 UTC]

One thing I can tell you in advance is that figures that come with DAZ Studio do NOT contain any morphs for the body or face. In other words, DAZ make their money by giving away the "base" models for free and then charging for the morphs separately. Chances are you will not be able to make characters unique without those morphs. ^^

I often suggest DAZ studio as a free alternative for Poser, but at the same time I am utterly against DAZ3D's tendency to use antitrust [link] as their main market tactic. They have lowered the quality of Poser models by offering often inferior figures like Aiko3 and breaking independent developers by competing against freebies. And what's worse - DAZ knows that people will not (or cannot) complain against inferior products when they get them for free. T_T

maybe it has to do with the fact that most of yur watchers are male?(assumption only!)

go collect more female watchers and develop a male chara fan base lolz

in any cas i haven't seen anything wrong with the hiro3 model - it's used for sawada isn't it?

lolz - and it's not the overmuscled western man type person XD - no arnie for me thank you

go skinny acrobat guys ( and the typical bishie male )

I have the impression that at least half of the ones who watch me are female. Some claim the majority of dA artists are female. But when you go to their galleries, they are making female characters only, which is kinda unexpected. Some of them claim they don't know male anatomy that well and feel uncomfortable drawing them. That is enough for a case study.

Tahleena In reply to ken1171 [2008-01-07 23:10:37 +0000 UTC]

well - i know i'd be uncomfortable if i had to study the human male - have you any idea how difficult it is to draw the male crotch as opposed to the female?

the clothing wrinkles are completely different ... and i am NOT going to study that area thank you very much!

i've yet to find some good references so that i won't feel embarrassed

my trouble with girls is the breast area - again it's clothing wrinkles that get me stumped....tho i could always try for the nude and get what's underneath accurate first buuuuut.........

ken1171 In reply to Tahleena [2008-01-08 18:37:09 +0000 UTC]

I always thought people should 1st draw the character outlines in the nude and only then add the clothes so that shapes & volumes will be anatomically correct. A good example of this is drawing the entire head shape *before* drawing the hair, so that that volume, size and shape looks right. ^^

Tahleena In reply to ken1171 [2008-01-08 23:10:07 +0000 UTC]

yeah....buuuuut.... lolz

the concept of drawing a male nude still creates giggles of embarassment lolz *mind runs and hides*

ken1171 In reply to Tahleena [2008-01-09 07:04:35 +0000 UTC]

Hehe that's understandable. As I was saying before, the majority of female artists I know feel like that.
That explains the lack of male characters even among female artists...

Good work on body and the proportions are amazing. he's a cutie i would so date him if he was real. This is something different from what you usually do or maybe i haven't been through your whole gallery like i should have .lol .i get around too it one day when i have extra time.

Thank you, I am really happy you liked him. This is indeed out of my ordinary mostly because people use to gimme the cold shoulder when it comes to male characters. If you notice here, only about 8 people commented, which is definitely way below my average. Making male characters here at dA is really not very encouraging, but I still like to do different things every now and then just for the challenge or art trades. ^^

I have noticed this too. There is just not much for male characters. I think I understand why this is the case, but if you wanted to make an animation using these models as the base, you would be suffering from a serious restriction.

ken1171 In reply to xformation [2007-12-23 01:28:08 +0000 UTC]

Well it's not so surprising if you notice how I get mostly *ignored* when I post male characters - and this is no exception to the rule: only 5 people commented. After 2 years here at dA and about 5 years in other galleries, this is the normal when it comes to male characters - people simply are not interested on them as much as female characters. And consider that about half of the dA artists are female, that is rather striking. Some even claim more than half are female, so go figure...

Somehow I doubt that, considering that I only know the gender of the people who actually watch me. And from those 500+ who do, only about 6% post comments.
