Description Made in a small shoebox with construction paper, sate sticks, and glue.
I dropped these down the stairs the other day and it's still completely in tact, so it's way sturdier than it looks!
---------------------------------------------------------

This memory is a very dear one to me.
It was November of 1997 and the FOS scoutung group (From Flanders Belgium, an open non-religious branch of scouts) celebrated its 90th anniversary.
To celebrate, every single division of the fos scouting group held a 3 day weekend to be together, meet the other groups and just have fun.

The colors of the trees and people aren't coincidence. Since I couldn't use logo's or copyrighted symbols I couldn't include the scarves, so I just made everyone's color into a tree and gave the persons the color of their groups.

In order from left to right:
(In case you wondered, here's a chart showing all the colors: [link] )
S. in orange, She was from the Mountains and Woods Scouts
T. in Yellow, She was from the Beachcomber's Scouts
Me in Blue, I was from the Sea Scouts
L. His scouts colors were tan purple and grey, so that makes pale pink: He was from the Rover crofts group.

And finally, not depicted but represented is M. The magenta tree. He was from the wood walkers Scouts. I recently found out he has passed away, I represented him only as a tree, and a small bush representing his son. I placed the almost bare orange tree in front of his so it symbolizes he is no longer here.

(The pale pink bush represents L.'s daughter.)

Another reason why he's only represented as a tree is because I have a picture of us from that weekend standing in this particular pose. As you can see is L. standing right in front of him, so I couldn't really make out what he looked like, and knowing he was gone, I just couldn't bring myself to stare at it longer than I had to.

We held contact for years, and one of them remained one of my closest friends.

It truly was an autumn to remember...

I love the superposition of the shapes and the fact that you used only silhouettes. So well done !

Thanks, at least the minimalistic-ness makes it stand out a bit.
I just hope something this simple looking still stands a chance.

Thank you so much, I'm a bit of a paper hoarder so picking 5 colors from 2 binders full was quite a challenge xD

i love the amount of depth you could see from this. i also really like how it looks so clean-cut and simplistic, but at the same time, there's a feeling of complexity to it. the representation of this piece is also very touching. this is so nice, it really conveys the feeling of autumn .

I really like how you made the leaves look like they are falling/floating in the air! Very pretty!

How did you make those cut outs? They look so precise and detailed!

With a lot of patience and a way to dull exacto blade. My hand still hurts. xD
But seriously, the trees are done by freehand. I only sketch op some ovals of where the leaves are and start cutting. The people are done in one go, just a small pair of scissors and very carefully cut along while looking at the original picture of them. Each kid took up about 20 minutes to properly cut.

Yeah a figured an x-acto knife would be the way to go, but gosh I could imagine how much you hands would hurt after awhile. It looks like it took some time! Good job!
