hmmm, I think it be nice to have the eyes on the horse open? and making them sort of gloweh, that would attract peoples attention to the horse? xD I'm not sure.

A strong light source from the top left would be nice

Yeah, I think a light source would be great.. Pic's a little dark. Maybe, with the light, add a lens flare and a frame around the picture thats a black fade-in? Maybe?

^ Yeah I get what your saying. The horse just kind of blends in, but thats sorta how it's supposed to be. I think.
Very creative thought. When you told me you were going to make an earth horse I was thinking more along the lines of like a sand horse or something.
