wow, great pic, a nice example of a military unit made interesting by its composure. These are the orhpaned soldiers brought up in a life dedicated to warfare, correct?

Not necessarily orphaned as much as required to be given as a tribute to the Ottomans. Ironically, the deadliest Turkish military unit was not Turkish, but mostly Eastern European. For that matter, a lot of Sultans were more Eastern European by blood than Turkish. The Janissaries were the deadliest infantry unit of their time.
