Description
In this design, I wanted to basically come up with the Star Wars version of the T-20/F-5 Tigershark light attack aircraft or the F-16 Viper. So this craft is small, maneuverable (especially in dogfights, maneuverability suffers at high speed), has light shields, a Class 1 hyperdrive and astromech socket, and like the T.I.E., has almost no shielding to speak of. While much more expensive than a T.I.E., the Type 15 Light Fighter is still vastly cheaper than your typical T-65B X-Wing. It's sole armament is a pair of linked heavy laser cannons, giving it better striking range than either the T.I.E. or the X-wing, both of which use medium laser cannons. The extra range and damage output help compensate for the relative fragility of the starfighter. A single massive fusial thruster keeps maintenance simple for the propulsion system.
