My OC Tierith from my story PilotI finally completed a facial portrait of him that I think I actually like (ask me tomorrow, haha)
Thank you so much to my hair goddesses & for their excellent help with his hair. Some day I will get this hair thing figured out.

Ah...er....well, Tierith's actually not supposed to be particularly androgynous, or at least he certainly doesn't see himself that way...perhaps I need to draw him again.

Perhaps I chose the wrong word, then. I certainly couldn't mistake him for a woman, haha. "Pretty-boy" just seemed a little rude. What's a way to say someone is both handsome and beautiful at the same time?

Ah...handsome and beautiful is exactly what he is supposed to be. Handsome, beautiful but somehow...normal too. Very different from Jae. I wanted that contrast between them and for it to be part of Jae's uneasiness with him.

Ah, this is Jae [link] and he's rather inexperienced in love, so he doesn't have a lot of confidence. Tier on the other hand has a LOT of confidence, haha! But their whole situation is incredibly complicated I'm afraid, so it's not very easy to explain.

Very, very complicated lovers. There's a good deal of...er...interference. I'm not sure how to describe it short of just explaining the story.

The hair looks fine to me, blond hair is hard. Those lips are beautifully rendered. He's just lovely.

Ah thanks! I'm working to get better and better and more and more natural with hair. I'm afraid I don't have much of a grasp on the way hair flows. Perhaps because I have OOOGlY unmanageable hair myself, hahaha! What do you mean his hair isn't supposed to hang in limp, frizzy bedraggled clumps....but that's exactly what mine does!! One of these days I'll stop using myself as a reference.

Know about unmanageable hair, too. Mine is fine, but I have a lot of it, and it's neither straight nor curly. I use photos as refs!

I use a lot of photo refs too. My latest piece I used three references just on the hair! Haha! But sometimes you just really need to be able to visualize what the hair would look like from that exact angle...and that's when I give into the temptation to go start staring in the mirror.

Same here. My last deviation was prolly the closest to the ref, ever, but my character has his hair long and never wears cardis, so off I had go to find other refs!

I love the way he came out. His lips look delicious and his eyes are gorgeous. Yes, he does look more "realistic" but he turned out so good!

Yay! I'm so glad you like how he turned out!! I've had a hard time properly visualizing what he looked like...I mean a few key traits, but his face has never been clear to me! So I wasn't sure about this portrait, if it really captured him, but I like it so much better than the ones I've drawn before!

I've got more than a few characters like that. Sometimes, I don't even get their names.

Yeah, I've had this problem before. Most notably with Ash and Grae from my Infinity Gate story. Neither their characters nor their faces would come to me, yet I knew I had to come up with their story. So frustrating. I need to redraw them at some point...and I still haven't yet.
But Tier is a different story. Originally Pilot was never meant to be a story I shared with people. It was a personal work I was writing as therapy for myself. It was supposed to be a tragedy...Jae was supposed to die! Tier was never planned as anything other than "Blonde asshole" hahah! OK, not really, but I did originally just envision him as something like a cross between Havi and Iason. Even after I started seriously writing up the background, and the characters, Tier never developed a face. I had a personality and a complicated history for him, but his face...ugh! I hated all the drawings I'd done of him...I went as far as to HIDE his face in one of them, haha! So..yeah, it's good for him to finally have a face, and one that somewhat encapsulates my ideas for him.
Like I wanted the idea that Tier is attractive enough, that Jae's doubts about himself are understandable, but at the same time, I wanted Jae's face to be very distinctive and memorable, where as as pretty as he is, there is less about Tier's face that stands out. It's his commanding presence and the intensity in his eyes that captures you instead (that and his hot smokin body). Anyways, I'm blathering, haha!

Oddly, it's comforting to know that I'm not alone in that aspect. It's okay.
I understand about writing something just for yourself and then sharing it later. And that's not to say that he still can't be the 'blond asshole' (blonde for women, blond for men--I don't get it either.). He could just be that way with other people.
You definitely pulled that off with this picture. While I remember the rest of it, mostly, it is his eyes that I can't forget. That and his lips...

Well Tier decided not to actually be an asshole. I genuinely really enjoy his character now and he developed way more of a story than I ever expected.
