Name: Ruaraidh “Ruar” Maclean
Pronunciation: ROOH-ree / ROOR
Age: 27
Height: 5’11”
Hometown/Region: Icirrus City, Unova

Personality: Generally a jovial guy, Ruaraidh loves nothing better than to have a rousing night at a tavern or brothel or a day’s hunting in the field. He is more prone to laughter than to ill-will, but though he makes for the most loyal of friends he is often stubborn to a fault and what he says, goes. Anyone saying otherwise is likely to get a taste of a temper that’s about as fiery as his hair.

Overall he is the louder and rowdier of the two Maclean boys and as a result has been the apple of their father’s eye since they were children. He knows full well that he’ll someday have to take the responsibility of leading the clan, and though he’s wholly willing to rise to that task he does hide some amount of stress put on him by his father. Mostly he tries to vent this out on the practice field, something he is really quite good at due to his strength and the sheer ferocity he displays during a fight.
He and his brother often get into fights over one thing or another (usually something as simple as an argument over who ate the last sweet roll) but make no mistake, he loves Matt nearly as much as he does his young son and he spends a lot of time trying to stick up for him.

History: The eldest son of the Lord Maclean, Ruaraidh’s life up to this point hasn’t been the easiest but it hasn’t been a bad one. From the time he was small Ruar’s been trained for both the responsibilities of a laird and a warrior and he’s worked hard not to disappoint his father, though he sometimes has arguments with the Lord over his younger brother’s treatment. He’s known since he was a child that Matha is only his half-brother but as far as he’s concerned there’s no difference.

When he was barely 21 he was married to the daughter of a neighboring lord, a political marriage that nevertheless had a basis in real love. Not long afterward Ruar was indescribably proud to be the father of a healthy baby son, but the happiness of the couple was short-lived—his beloved wife died of a fever three years later. For the most part Ruaraidh’s tried to put this event behind him, though he hasn’t claimed to love another or talked of marriage since. For now he's simply trying to set a good example for his son.

Neul | Altaria | Natural Cure | Male

Altaria being the clan's symbol, ownership of this species is strictly reserved for the Lord and his eldest son when he is deemed ready. Neul is only recently evolved, having been a Swablu in Ruar's care for several years until rumors of war caused the Lord to finally change his mind. The bird still hasn't quite reached his full size but he's still a force to be reckoned with in a fight. He is extremely attached to Ruaraidh and isn't likely to obey orders given by anybody else.

Based to some extent on a crane.

Damh | Stantler | Intimidate| Male

Ruaraidh came to own this monster of a buck after a hunt, during which he and Matha worked themselves into an intense duel of dares that culminated in Ruar setting out to capture the massive lead buck of the herd alive and attempt to actually ride the thing while he was at it. Strangely enough he managed to accomplish this without being gutted and he ended up riding his prize all way back to the castle. Damh eventually came to tolerate the man, and now even though they still butt heads occasionally (quite literally at times) the stag is as loyal a mount as any.

Based on a male red stag.

Gadhar | (shiny) Herdier | Scrappy | Male

Hounds are a common sight around the clan homestead, and Gadhar has always been Ruaraidh's favorite of the lot. He has a tendency to follow his master about the castle and when he's not sleeping by the hearth or on the foot of Ruar's bed he's usually accompanying him out on hunts. He's surprisingly agile for his size and immensely strong. His breed is very people-oriented, and though he is fond of some good-natured rough-housing with Ruaraidh he is extremely gentle with his son and the other children inhabiting the castle.

Based on a Scottish deerhound.

To some extent Ruar takes some qualities from my End Run OC Rory, which is why they look rather alike. I'm treating him as a distant ancestor because hell I love connecting my characters across time and space. xDDD;
