Description Am I cruel?
I was talking to a friend walking by with her two gorgeous dogs, and I told her I put this verbena blossom into the spiders web, and misted it with the hose.
I took pictures as the spider tried repeatedly to extricate the flower from its web.
When it FINALLY, on the third attempt, got the flower out...
I picked it up and put it back in the web again.
Now...she said "Craig..you're cruel" with a smile on her face.
I said "I don't know, people (including me) spray them with poison, squash them, kill them in many ways...I've just played a practical joke on this one for photographic purposes".

No spiders were hurt in the taking of this picture.

The spiders don't pay rent, so I make them work for their lodging.

If I spent every day squishing every spider I saw I'd do nothing else...I have never lived in a place with more spiders than this.
When I was in the city I would take any spiders I found in my apartment out onto the balcony and set it free.
Even if I set free the spiders I found in my house I'd be in and out of the house so many times I'd drop.
I only destroy ones who choose unwise places for their webs.

Not at all, I understand spiders can make some folks cringe.
I used to put a 'spider alert' on pics for my friend

It's not really cruel. Its not like you're hurting or killing the spider at all.

I only ever kill a living being as a last resort.
Sometimes its necessary, but I take no pleasure in it.
Like mice.
Outside, I have no problem...
In the garage, they are going to be killed.
They've never made it into our house (yet)...the garage is the first line of defense.
I have to keep my organic fertilizer in sealed plastic tubs, or all kinds of vermin would EAT it.
My rule is "If you ain't paying me rent, you ain't living here".

I agree, I don't mind them if they are outside at all. But if they are inside, it becomes a problem, since they can bite, and they can really freak you out while sleeping or whatever your doing. Its like territory.

They crap...they eat food...they eat food and crap...and multiply.
When I lived downtown I had sporadic mouse and roach problems.
I had to keep EVERYTHING in Tupperwear.
Now I live in a house unspoiled by poison or mouse droppings, I intend to fight for it.

YEah I know how that is. At my old house we had black widows and brown spiders and mice so we had to try not to have crumbs every where. We had to use bug bomb things every couple of monthes during the warmth for the spders. It was horrble. with the mice, we had to capture them and realese them back into the feild they belong in. It didnt really help that we had a cat that brought them home though those were the easiest to get rid of since they were either already dead or really scared. so i know how it feels to have a problem. not its just brown spders. Knats are annoying too so we have to try and use stuff that will kill them off, which is normally near or on plants since thats where they become of. We only found one mouse in our house since we have lived at or current home of 5 years.

Lol.We find one atleast once a week or so. We kill it with whatever is handy. also one other insect i hate in the house are moths. I really hate them, such dirty things. I can't wait for it to snow so I wont have to deal with them (spiders and mohs) for a while.

On Canada Day, I was out pulling weeds in my garden, when a tiny moth flew right into my ear. NOT kidding.
I could HEAR it fluttering, attempting to flap it's wings...horrible.
I put polysporin drops in my ear, and listened as it died inside there.
Now, even though I have been stung many times by bees wasps and hornets as a result of my fascination with them, NOTHING was as disturbing as a live bug dying inside my HEAD.
Something I will never forget.
If I were a person that was frightened of insects, I would be worried that it had laid eggs, or whatever.
My only concern was that, as it rotted away inside my ear, it would cause infection.
A baseless fear it turns out.
Not that the thought of it rotting in my head gave me comfort.

Wow. Well atleast it didnt leave eggs or anything. I can't imagine having a bug be stuck in your ear especially the ones that fly. Atleast nothing horrible happened.

It was traumatic for me, even though I am not skittish.
I have since heard similar stories...
One of a kid who was so upset his mom took him to the hospital.
