While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. (II Peter 2:19)

Many have asked me to explain what this painting is about. The city of Montreal (where I live) has seen much of its infrastructure fall apart due to collusion in the construction sector. Potholes are a common sight and have become synonymous with political corruption. The cracked asphalt symbolizes this fallen world. The holes are bottomless, illustrating how sin finds its roots in the abyss. The child looks up for redemption, expecting salvation from above as she says "Maranatha", "Come, Lord Jesus."
