Description Rounding out my expansion set of "Lovely Lady Mascot" art cards, we have the Clabber Girl who appears on the can of Clabber Girl Baking Powder . A trifle obscure, but I imagine her face is very familiar to you folks who are into baking.

Clabber Baking Powder was introduced in 1899 making it one of the oldest food products still in use today (though 10 years younger than Aunt Jemima). The Clabber Girl appeared on the package in 1923 when the brand name was changed to Clabber Girl Baking Powder. Unlike the other mascots girls in this set, she's remained virtually unchanged since her debut.

Well, that's it for this set (for now). If you'd like to see the rest of the "Lovely Lady Mascots", you can find them here: [link]

I like that she's still black and white in this one. Now she's the colour of baking powder.

Probably one of the most unappreciated mascots out there, for all of her history with cookie-baking fiends everywhere. I almost laughed when I saw this because I knew exactly who it is. I see her at least once a week, because that's how much I bake... or sometimes think about baking.
On that note, I'm now adding the California Raisins girl onto my list of stuff to sketch. Spread the love to the representative of one of my favorite dried fruits.

I use Clabber Girl almost exclusively.

XD

When I saw this, I thought of the easy sponge cake that I make (it has, like, 4 ingredients? one of which is baking powder. I remember when I was little, I didn't know there was difference between baking powder and baking soda. Eeehhh...

I like using it in my golden carrot muffins and my completely-from-scratch whole wheat pancakes.

I went back to the photos I took last year for making a cake tutorial, and I see that it definitely was Clabber Girl --> [link]

We don't have Sunbeam bread on the east coast, so I hadn't heard of her until recently.

Really? I first heard of it when I vacationed in Michigan as a kid...not exactly East Coast of course.

Yeah, my friends in Cali and the mid-west exposed me to it. If I revisit these, she'll be on the top of the list. I should probably do some boys (Jolly Green Giant, Mr. Clean, etc) too, I suppose. 9.9

Yeah, but girls are more fun to draw and more fun to look at. I know she's not a food item icon, butt I'd like to see your take on the Coppertone Girl. As a kid, I was sort of amazed that you could see her butt, and it was still OKAY.

I dunno...with this crowd, if I drew the Coppertone Girl someone might accuse me of being a pedophile. 9_9

Not often but I can and do on occasion. My wife does more often than I do BUT, I think I am slightly better at it than she is. I love baked goods.

The old one evokes slave imagery and the new one is kinda boring to draw (and I'd only have a headshot to go by). 9_9

If there's one face I know better than my girlfriend's...it's the Clabber Girl's. She came out really nice in your style. I've always found it interesting that she's never actually had any kind of makeover. My home ec teacher years back said she get's classed in the old brands category. when I asked what that meant, she said that old brands are the ones that are so well known they don't need any kind of makeover to stay current. They're almost exclusively used, to the point that there's little to no competitors. (She's right too. I've checked, and I've only ever seen two other brands of baking powder.) Excellent work man!
