Kill her? Well they do say that reviving and resurrection or otherwise any method of coming back to life is another super strong indicator of Sue-dom.

I was annoyed at all the missed opportunities like not having Bones meet Beast (i.e. Dr. McCoy meet Dr. McCoy), but Kevin, dear Kevin, I have got to love you for including M'Ress the Caitian in the next page! ^u^

You have sort of a odd situation here, because you created a character that is a deliberate Mary-Sue, and then you gave her character, conflict and weakness, thus removing her Sue-ness.
I like it. Very nice.

So, Sue's getting de-Sue-ified? I thought Kirk seemed strangely unaffected by her lately.
And I'm not sure where this cliff hanger is headed, but I hope Sue doesn't end up getting royally P. O.ed about the murder attempt. Though knowing her, it seems likely she'd just bawl her head off until everyone took pity on her (which, if she's losing her powers, might be a long time).
...Unless she might turn into that angry evil Sue character. I hope that doesn't happen.
Anyway, gotta love how Sue's mark when she's in the Star Trek universe is a star.

I think there was something like...the discussion of Mary Sues kinda started out in Star Trek fiction or something...
I just checked on wikipedia... Mary Sue was a self insertion/proxy for Paula Smith in 1973 for her parody story "A Trekkie's Tale"...OMG!

IKR? The fanfiction lore equated to the Ensign Sue plot is very well crafted in this story.

Star Trek fanfiction has given us so much: Mary Sues, Slash fiction and more!

plumbunnies In reply to SM51 [2013-06-21 16:40:56 +0000 UTC]
Well, I don't think Star Trek wasn't the first fandom to do such but I think it was the first fandom to recognize these elements in modern day fanfiction culture.

lolicantdraw In reply to plumbunnies [2013-06-21 19:44:42 +0000 UTC]
There used to be old print magazines that were basically star trek fanfiction. In order to categorize stories, tales where Kirk and Spock were good friends would be labeled "Kirk&Spock" however, stories where they were gay lovers would be "Kirk/Spock" hence slash fiction.

plumbunnies In reply to lolicantdraw [2013-06-21 21:00:14 +0000 UTC]
Yeah but what I'm saying it that just because it was recognized as slash fiction this way in the Star Trek fandom, doesn't necessarily mean that Star Trek fandom was the first fandom to include gay lovers in their fanfics...which I actually dunno that detail. The Slash fiction being called "/ fiction" technically is a modern day term thanks to the Star Trek fandom but I'm talking about fanfiction historically.

SM51 In reply to plumbunnies [2013-06-21 17:10:31 +0000 UTC]
The terms Mary Sue and slash fiction arose from Star Trek. That's all I meant. I'm sure there were people writing flash fics about Sherlock and John back in the day and I mean WAY back.

plumbunnies In reply to SM51 [2013-06-21 18:01:33 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, that's exactly what I meant. Hell, even fanfiction was published then if I'm not mistaken.

Well there are plenty of instances when a creator realises they created a "Sue" and so they work to try and make them into a more well rounded character.
