I know, but that's the case. I don't alter pics, by choice. Granted one can do anything now with PS, but this was shot nearly 14 years ago....It won the top prize the year after. It was just one of those rare moments....
Also, just as my own humble opinion, I think that PS is helping create a generation of lazy photographers...

wow is that when the accident happened? is that 3-mile?

I could be really cagey and infer that.....but alas that's not the case. This was on the road to State College, Pennsylvania and I believe is just a regular power plant running normally, I just happened to be driving by when the little miracles of temperature, heat layers and no wind occurred...it didn't last long.... This is the second frame. The first and third don't work.... by the forth it was gone....

Probably....I'm working on getting nearly everything into print now...
thanks so much for asking...maybe I'll move this one up in the line....

Ugh, I am once again knocked speechless by your art, art from my birth year no less. Which makes this all the more special aside from what I see... and how wild and awesome it looks.

Holy crap (<--- not usually much in my vocabulary). How wild and unreal and don't even want to believe it was like that is this? I can't stop going back to look at it again. And again.

Thanks again..... I felt the same way. I was driving with a friend back to college when I saw this thing forming over the local plant. I was trying to shoot it from the car since there was no way to pull over on the mountain road. I thought it was gone. Then suddenly we crested the hill and there was a pullover. I ran across the road and shot three frames. The first and third don't work. It then almost immediately vanished. It was simply one of those magic moments.

Inspiration.
I've been hoping to start a series this spring of industrial parks near my home. The gizmos looks so fantastic and forieng to me. It's easy for me to imagine that aliens left them behind. So far from my human experience. I always wonder WHAT they do...Makes me ask a question. Seems like a good place to start.

the range of greys in this are fantastic, which contrasts the smoke/exhaust perfectly. what a great shot, you are an amazing photographer

i am amazed at the shape of that thing... u know, just hanging in there... brooding on the stacks...
come to think of it, it feels more like the breath before the long plunge... the stacks are obviously pausing for some moments for what, i have yet to speculate.
something follows this picture... and the thought makes it more alluring

Most certainly luck. Nature is funny, ^^ its not like you can set up the very next day and expect that to happen again. The shot comes ones in a lifetime.
