Albert Gaines was an ordinary worker at a nuclear power plant in Atomic City on an unknown Earth. Albert job help support his ill mother, and his abusive father who had quit his job and just drink all day. Albert was accidentally exposed to nuclear waste products one day, and in slowly relieved in the most unlikely of origins gained superhuman powers as a result. His powers were relieved one night when coming to home after finally getting back to work after getting exposed to nuclear waste, Albert hear a fight going on in the house. Bursting in and find his father beating up his mother, Albert had to pull him off her, but he was to late his mom was a bloody mess. Rage wash over Albert as he punch his father in the chest that sent him flying out of the living room window, not thinking twice Albert took after him in a streak through the air as he keep up with the punching, as tear and blood mix as Albert final sent his father body to the ground. Kneeling over his father's body the rage final removed realized that the first punch Albert had rip his father heart out. After burying his father body in the wood, he return to the house to find the police and the E.M.T. there, Albert's mother died while on her way to the hospital.

Using his power for good he decided to become a Superhero, wearing a homemade suit he took up the name Nuke. Albert career as a hero was 112 months (9 years), Nuke had help shoved 712 problems in his hometown and around the state, from cat stuck in trees to bank robbery. One battle would change it forever in a battle with a radioactive creature of unknown origin, the US Army had to be called into to interfere, the result the entire city of Atomic City and the state being destroyed all life was lost total of 31,916 souls. Only Nuke remain standing alone glowing with a yellow skin, orange hair, red eyes, and green energy surround his body.

55 years later in 2021, a older with longer hair and beard Albert is a severely depressed man living underground in a fallout shelter under Atomic City because his body was still emits high levels of radiation. Albert was dealing with the echo of voices of all the people who die on that day in his head. A few days before Nuke chance to be a hero came again when members of the Squadron Supreme befriend him and offer a place in the squad, he had decided to cut his hair back to when he was a hero as a reminder of both his success and failed, even founding a recreation of the t-shirt that his mother got for his last birthday before her death. The Squadron provided Nuke a armor suit that all of the founder member had a part making that would help control his radiation output.
