Description Art trade with

I was gonna go swimming today but my pool turned a murky hue so I lost interest in that. >__> So I sat down and finished this. You should totally look at this while listening to Sinking by Sysyphe.

I'm gonna try that new delayed upload thing! If it works and/or I'm not retarded, this should be uploaded 7 hours from now!

Go look at *Robo-Shark 's beautiful piece!

He finished months before I did. OTL

Oooh the blue is great! I love how you did the watershine patterns on his skin and the pose, it really does look as though he's floating in something substantial and not just hovering in empty air
I even like that you added a touch of grey to the surface of the water to show the reflection of his skin tone, and all the details in the coral below like the eel poking out of its hiding hole and the seaslug

If I can give a critique it'd only be that it would have been nice if it had a little more contrast between the light and the blueness to break it up a little. I know underwater things are a little softened in terms of light shine, but it'd have been nice to see some more saturated colour sports of a lighter tone on the tops of the ray's backs or on the shine lines on his body

You found the seaslug! 8D A lot of this was inspired by documentaries haha. <3

I hear ya. I often see people use the dodge tool to brighten the shine lines, but without Photoshop it's hard for me to control color tones. D: But yeah, I see where some saturation would look nice. Hm.

Thank you for your comment!

Yay lol its bottom plume caught my eye

Noooo not the dodge tool! I think that corel actually handles colours more naturally, they do come out a bit dark but I think they're more realistic than photoshop

You're welcome!

god no I wouldn't use the dodge tool for the whole thing lol. That's worse than using the smudge haha. I'm trying to find an example where I saw a very skilled artist use it well, but I can't find it. :I

In Photoshop I can use the color balance and levels options to help my unify my drawing. I didn't need any of that here because of the subdued lighting. But if I needed high contrast, like a sunset, I'd definitely need those adjustments. Painter may handle colors better, but that doesn't do much if the one using the program is a total derp with colors. xD

*eyes bleed* lol the smudge i can happily say I haven't touched in years...I'm hooked on the blender instead!
Oh there was! There was a DD a long time ago where the artist had uses smudge, dodge AND burn for the whole thing

I have never used those, i'm like an idiot, I just want to paint and hope I can fix everything without needing to use the handy tools put there for the purpose
Photoshop has some "actions" you can load for sunsets, but I think it only works on photographs

Dude I know I said it in a note but this is so friggin' beautiful and I love it to death. All the critter details, the variety of soft and rough edged textures, it's all so painterly and amazing and yessss gaaaah ;_;

I LOVE the animals you chose to feature, and I love Jay's swimming pose and the tail fin too! The way his hair flows through the water is a great touch too, you've put so much detail into all of the little pieces in this and it's incredible. <3 THANK YOU SO MUCH.
