Found a sketch of this figure when I flipped thru my sketching papers on my office desk.I really like that sketch, when translate to cg.. well.. as always lose some essence. Bet that's unavoidable I suppose...
Added some color, which is actually quite rare to me...
Frankly speaking I'd no idea wat color to put... hym...
Got to buck up in color...
Oh yea, I did tried to add some bg, but failed.. again. I think I should stick to my own style, haha. I always think bg limits audience's imagination..

How do you get the 'stroke'-like brush effect? I've been looking for it but couldn't find it.

Brush I used in this piece looks quite artificial thou. Anyway just play around with brush options in photoshop. You need to 'squash' ur brush tip to get this kind of brush. Aiight.

This is captain cool-tastic. Maybe a bit overkill on the colour/brush effect around the head, but other than that, cool.

the idea the brush and the colour is nothing near bad. The pattern at the eyes reminds me of Orca : dono where the eyes are? The tip of the wings, are those broken bones? Sparrow head with Balrog of LOTR's mane 
Technical wise, think the knee joint and the crossed leg (I think?) couldn't be more expressive.
I would add a simple shadow though, to at least give it a connection to the background
Anyway i think it's cool.
