I always thought that although the raging argument between Thor and Odin was the main focal point during that scene; it was always intriguing to watch Loki's expression as he watches them argue, trying to understand what just happened.

I believe that though Loki is the god of lies, he still shows some truths about himself. BUT!! because he's known as the god of lies, no one ever knows when he's telling the truth!! SO HIS TRUTH BECOMES A LIE TO EVERYONE!!!
That's ok though, cause I know Loki best

It was sad, for everyone involved. I always have a hard time determining what's part of Loki's plans and what isn't, since he's the freaking God of Lies, but I'm 99% certain that he did not intend for this. It also breaks me that he tries to stop it, and Odin shuts him down immediately. As humorous as Odin's inarticulate speech is, it's hard not to feel bad for Loki when he has that "shutting up now" face.

You can see it in his eyes, in both the movie and your drawing - he didn't mean for it to go this far.
Yes, he wanted to ruin Thor's big day.
Yes, he wanted to delay Thor being crowned king.
Yes, he wanted to get Thor in trouble with daddy.
But he never meant to get Thor /banished/. That flings him into a position he never wanted, and takes away - well - the person who is the most important to him in the world, even though his feelings for Thor by this point are already muddled and bitter at best.
...I need to watch this movie...
