Description Well, just a lil' something I whipped up for the upcoming holiday... I decided to sort of continue a tradition. I myself appeared in my X-mass picture in 2004 (along with several other people, but who's counting?), and my clonething RK was the star of 2005's, so it was only fair that our third little sister Reika got to be featured in my 2006 drawing. u.u It is after all her very first Christmas.

She's kinna hard to tell apart from RK, huh? 6.6 Well, her front hairbits are even longer than RK's, and I made it easy on ya by sticking her in an Asian-styled shirt. Meanwhile, that is such a Reika face. Worried but hopeful, just aiming to please but always sort of expecting to be yelled at. XD; Yeah, ya'll here on dA have really only seen her moody and dangerous. She's really a shy, awkward thing in pleasant social situations. 9.9 Yeah, and that face was the reason I left this uninked and pencil-y. I didn't want to risk messing it up when it was so...so...her.

ANYWAY OMG X-MASS. 'Tis the season for GIVING, yes! Giving, in this case, COOKIES. Enjoy!

AWW REIKA! X'D;; She's adorable. She's even got a lil' wintery-blush thing goin' on. o.o And where does she get her clothes? Srsly. I want some.

6.6 Have you ever noticed that Japanese cookies, or at least the ones I've seen in animes and mangas, are a) a lot smaller and b) a lot more elaborately decorated than western cookies? When I went on that studyspree with London and Japan history, I learned that, generally speaking, in everyday life the Japanese tend to put as much effort into the presentation of food as the actual cooking or taste. Like...there's supposed to be a good mix of colors and textures and shapes and stuff. While in most western societies, unless it's a fancy restaurant or a special occasion, most of the effort just goes into the taste and ease of preparation. :T Fun fact.

She gets 'em from this little store in the mall closest to us that sells nothing but Asian-styled shirts and dresses like that, in all sizes and colors and patterns. o.@ It's cool.

I did kinda notice that about Japanese food being really about presentation, but like...didn't put my finger on it exactly. =o The judges on "Iron Chef" go on about color and texture and temperature mixes. Plus if you look at fancy Japanese food online the restaurants go on about making a beautiful artistic meal and all... And let's face it, well-made sushi is PRETTY. ...and also I've seen Reika make food and she goes to great pains, if she's preparing something for someone else, to make sure every grain of rice is in place. XD;;; It's an interesting cultural thing, definitely.

;.; I want your mall.

It is a cool cultural thing. 6.6 Food's awesome like that. It's something that everyone in every society everywhere has in common, so you can really see the cultural differences. :T Like how in most Mediterranean-European countries (Italy, France, Greece, etc), mealtimes are considered relaxation & talkingtimes, and they'll be offended if you don't eat slowly and eat a lot and talk a lot while you're eating, or how it's considered gross if you eat with your left hand in Indian society.

6.6 In Japanese society, it's like.....you're considered a careless host if the food you serve isn't pretty with a large variety. XD; Which you can kinda see when you watch animes, I guess. I remember looking at the Typical Anime Family sitting around a table eating out of like TEN DIFFERENT TEENY DISHES OF DIFFERENT FOOD and going "But...dude. o_o; What about like...casserole? O.o; What does the mom DO all day?" 9.9 Even in kid lunches, usually the moms will try to make enviable lunches with like...the rice balls in little animal shapes or stuff like that. u.u Also, Japanese food relies less on cooking a lot and storing up extra food, and more on getting fresh seasonal foods almost daily from a local market and barely cooking them at all. 6.6 Which is actually healthier, but also a lot more cumbersome to prepare. u.u; Which is another reason why there are still very traditional gender roles in Japan. 6.6 Or maybe you could look at the continuance of such meals as a result of there being such traditional gender roles in Japan, because the rising equality of women in the workplace and out of the home in Western society also led to the general decline of the extravagant home-cooked meal. Ah, well. u.u;;

XD You notice that fresh food thing even in a non-family-oriented anime like "DearS" where Ren and Miu are going shopping for vegetables...EVERY FREAKING DAY and I'm like WHUT? Also on "Sailor Moon" whenever all the girls are over at Usagi's house, her mom will nearly ALWAYS pop in with a giant selection of little sweet items like cake and cookies and again I'm like WHUT when did you have time to make that?

Reika was horrified by microwave dinners. =T;; I'm glad I didn't acquire her until after I finished college.

We love culturelectures in here. o_@

*pops head back in* Also, traditional Japanese fare is very low in calcium, protein, iron, and vitamins A and D, all of which stunt growth. It's been found that the genetics for height in Asians is pretty much identical to height for other races, the short height is mostly just due to dietary factors!

Merry Christmas!

I had to put sprinkles on the cookies, because they're on the ones we have in the house too. XD; Plus it makes for a nice kinda texture-y ness. I'm glad that you likes.

She does, facially, look different from the RK-san.

Don't know that I'd be able to tell them apart, but . . .

Yay, Channukah's already over. Woo. ^_^ Mmm, cookies. Good job, K-san~!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KidKourage In reply to Bakurakrazie [2006-12-28 02:56:22 +0000 UTC]

=B It's facial expressions. RK tends to look more sweet and...domestic, really, and Reika tends to look more emotional be it angry, sad, worried...or something like this. I think. I don't know. 9.6 People in RPs tend to get all three of us mixed up.

Hope you had a happy holiday!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Bakurakrazie In reply to KidKourage [2006-12-28 03:46:56 +0000 UTC]

Indeed. I know how that is. In onna my RPs there were about . . . ten? Ten different versions on a single person.

I now am only missing Witches Abroad, and two others from the Discworld collection. >3 Mmm. Practchett.
