Fauna clung tightly to the base of the mare's neck - looking for all the world like a pitiful, wet kitten.
She didn't like water. She didn't like swimming. And she was going to kill Heather when she got home.
Foresight! Hmph! "Be ready for an adventure" Heather had said - but she didn't mention a word about drowning!
Fauna choked as they were drenched in yet another wave of liquid salt.
Martie nickered back at her.
Fauna looked out through salt-stung eyes "I'm fine girl....I'm fine...just keep going..."
The warhorse was doing all the work, battling the waves back - sometimes pushing off the sheer rocks that jutted around them.
Thank heaven for Martie, Fauna wasn't sure if she'd have made it without her.
Of course he wasn't sure if she was going to make it anyway.
But then, through the gloom of the storm shrouded night, she glimsped a dark, hilly horizon.
Land.
