Story:

Midday was slowly starting to give into evening. The ice which hours ago settled into a difficult slush, began to freeze again making each step slippery and unpredictable. Both Cassis and Saera had agreed upon a polar bear as prey. While the handler usually insisted her girls stick mainly to fish, hunting was a necessity for their Arms of Akna, and was the rare time in their life where hunting a large animal was a necessity.

Polar bears were generally the hunt of choice – Saera had little fondness for the creatures who would often see her as a snack in seal form, and was one of the few choices available near a body of water. Walruses may be annoying and territorial, however they were little threat, especially with Tokotas alongside. Instead polar bears served as an immediate concern, and despite being a rare occurrence, one wandering into their territory presented a deadly threat to Tokotas, seals, and humans alike.

They had spent the better part of the day tracking the juvenile male, both from the water and on land. Saera had developed a particular distaste for him after watching him consume a seal pup hours beforehand, and had spent the time since cursing the fact they hadn’t decided to attack earlier. The bears aggressiveness suggested they waited until later when he was exhausted from being tracked, but the handler couldn’t help but to feel that everything could have been prevented had they striked earlier.

“I mean you have a good 200 pounds and nearly a foot on him,” Saera murmured somewhat impatiently. It was quite out of character for her to be so insistent, however the rage was quite clearly growing in her. She couldn’t quite explain it herself – she was not an idiot, she knew what bears ate. The handler was not exactly a vegetarian herself, and objectively knew she should not judge the creature on sheer instinct alone. Even Tokotas would normally eat seals if given the right opportunity, but that still did not stop her from hating the juvenile male.

You know the need for patience Sarea, the black halfmane seemed almost shocked by Saera’s odd behaviour. It was usually Cassis’s job to be the impatient one which needed guidance. Yes we could kill it now, but you know we should wait and lessen the risk of injury. She could see the frustration building in her companion, and in an abstract form she understood the hatred building. Watching the even made her stomach turn, despite knowing well that it was not uncommon for others of her kind to eat the same. However she did not come for vengeance, and both their safety was her first concern.

Blawrgh, I'm not 100% happy with this, buuuuut I've spent the last week tweaking it, and I think if I spend anymore time on it I'll die xD I'm still working on Saera's updated human form...but she does constantly dye her hair so it's not unusual for it to be more or less saturated depending on how long it's been since her last dye. I'm still struggling with her outfit - originally she was a Selkie, so I've always drawn her with a pelt, but I don't really have an interest in bringing her back as one and would prefer her to be a shapeshifter this time. I may have her learn other forms over a long period of time, so constantly having a pelt doesn't make a lot of sense...I might work on her more this weekend and get those things ironed out.
