If you have yet to read the Death Event 3 Lead-up comic mr-wang.deviantart.com/art/Tot… , I suggest you start running. Partly because the existence of this portrait is a major spoiler for Twilight of the Hakurei, and partly because you're probably pissing yourself with fear.

Michi Hakurei...her name has never invoked such emotions before.

It was mostly disgust, annoyance, and sometimes anger that her esteemed family would feel simply hearing that name. Such was the reputation she had, after all - that of an egotist. One who would proclaim her greatness to the whole world everywhere she went, to every person she met, and they would usually recieve a condescending remark from her afterwards.

Few felt for her. Most hated her. Nobody wished to be around her.

And none of these thoughts did she care for.

Indeed, this was a woman who was filled with the pride of her own being, and not a speck for any other. There was no capacity in her being that could bring itself to 'love' another other than herself. In fact, she spit at her own family.

A clan of prodigies? I'm the only prodigy there is. Everyone else is just a weak and insignificant piece of trash!

And as you have read the tragedy of this clan, she spit at their own deaths. She spit at her relatives losing the pride of their lives forever.

But it was here that her family, all subconsciously, continued one action.

They started to break her OWN pride.

A childish blue-haired cousin, striking rage-filled blows that cracked her skin.

A blind seer and an old sage, berating her in front of the little.

An old childhood rival, punching her in the chest.

A ginger-haired victim of her insults, still bitterly spitting back in her own face.

With each crack, her soul roared.

"It's true...this clan is composed of nothing but HAPLESS IMBECILES!"

It raged and burned on, her id scorching up her superego like the fires of hell...

"As far as I'm concerned, my life will be gone along with my brain cells if I stay any longer with this group of simple-minded suicides!"

Her ego was now a mere shadow of her former self, and it was craving blood.

"YOU CAN ALL DIE ALONG WITH THE REST OF THE FILTHY YOUKAI FOR ALL I CARE!"

Snap.

The Hashihime was once a human princess whose jealousy, so strong and fiery, became the only thing she lived for, transforming her into the Jealousy beneath the Earth's Crust.

So then, what shall we call Michi Hakurei, once a human priestess, whose pride and love for only herself, so overwhelming with its own twisted rage, transformed her into a youkai, carrying the flaming desire to destroy the family that denied her of her wholly self-centered destiny?

The ones who gave her life referred to her by name.

The ones who raised her referred to her with rebukes.

But from this day forth, all shall come to call her by a simple, fear-striking title.

Michi, the Youkai of Pride.
