Still not officially doing Inktober, but I’m inspired by what I’m seeing posted, so I’ll probably be more inky than normal this month
! My doodle from early this morning.Rose Thorn dragon. The lure at the end of its tail is used to bring in prey. I assume, despite this doodle, it’s actually a terrible flier, and primarily relies on camouflage to hunt.

I really like how you did the face and positioning. I also feel like your details are amazing and really reflect the nature of this character. I think you've really nailed dragon anatomy, with the way you've drawn the legs, wings, and neck. I also think this is a really original piece of artwork with fairly good techniques and vision, with nice impact as well. I have a couple minor gripes about this picture, but nothing that really hinders its progress. I think at first with this picture, it's kind of hard to tell what everything is, especially in the thumbnail. A way to fix this would be adding color, perhaps. You don't have to do it with this particular one, but if you do anything like this in the future I recommend adding color. But, I overall think this is a great drawing.

I actually played on and off with adding color to it, since unfortunately my approach to inks (just one sketch, ink stuff in) doesn't exactly alllways work.
but I felt it may be nice to leave just the line art in case anyone else ever wanted to color it.
My vision for the colors is that the rose tip on the tail is very reddish while the rest of the dragon is a dense old foliage color, so by color contrast alone, the tail would pop more. I started to shade the line art to show this but decided against it.

That's a good concept for colors for this, and I totally feel you, I'm horrible at choosing colors for artwork that I draw (which is why I don't ever put it on DeviantArt).

This is great, hands down. Ink is really medium hard to use and you've done an almost perfect job. The main downfall I see is that it is hard to tell whats whats at first glance. I love what you did with the wings, making them the hands as well, but I feel like there a little too thin. Also, the right foot, (the one pointing towards the ground) the angle, it's at looks a little off (like he has two left feet). Other than that, no big complaints. It looks really well made and I hope you keep this up!

Yeah, unfortunately my greatest downfall with inked works is that I literally approach them as a sketch with zero plan time, so things are often pretty messy.
BUT it's something I can always learn from

You know what, I support you all the way. I can't work with ink because have a touch of OCD. Even if its a small error, it nags at me. So this is like gold in my eyes.

I rarely ink because I get through about 5-10% of the piece before I get bored and hurry it up 
The reason I use brush pens is that I can sort of purposely do "messy" line art. I primarily use ink for sketches and speed work.

Interesting . I sometimes sketch with ink and sometimes I like what I see, in the end though, when I try to replicate it, it turns out bad.
