“At the end of the day, Chrom would just end up being another plain-old sword-wielder like Marth and Ike. Compared with other characters, he lacks any unique characteristics.
Conversely, when the idea of including Robin came to mind, conceiving the character was so easy that I immediately saw how it would work. From standards to specials, grabs to throws, all aspects of his moveset just fell into place. Not only did he possess characteristics unlike other fighters, but he also captured the essence of the Fire Emblem series. It was perfect!”

I did find the information a little harsh for Chrom but it's cold hard truth I guess. But Sakurai seems to highly praise Robin greatly as a character judging by his extended description of their abilities of being a creative Smash competitor. I couldn't agree more on this.
BUT WHY IS MALE ROBIN SO HOT NOW THIS IS ISN'T WHAT I ASKED FOR.

So Sakurai's saying that Chrom would be a clone of Marth or Ike, and yet he puts in Dark Pit and Lucina, who plays exactly like Marth.

I lost my everloving shit when Robin and Lucina were confirmed. I get to kick ass with my baby girl, and provide epic smash moves with my husband. That alone had me. The only thing I'd wish for, and this is solely as a fangirl, is that the Tiki trophy was an assist. Then it means I can kick ass with Cail, and summon his wife to help him kick even more ass.

Dat Attack on Titan solute XD I still cri everytime about Chrom not being playable,I honestly feel like Ike and Marth should ave just been removed being Awakening is where it's at now and given us Chrom and someone else...Chrom tho needs to be playable, Robin's final smash could have easily just been him combining all of his tomes into one attack...Also, since we can make custom movesets in offline multiplayer, do you think Robin will also be customizable in offline twoplayer maybe?

Strangely, Frederick could pull off an afro pretty well. Now all he needs is some mutton-chop sideburns to complete the disco-era look.
And yeah, maybe that is harsh on Chrom, but sort of true - they have a lot of sword-wielders in Smash (and Link was there first

Chrom, I know it hurts being shunned by the system, but you need to remember something: There's always a chance for there to be a DLC roster you could make.
And I never liked the "FALCON...PUNCH!!!" meme anyway and now I can use the fanboy-defensiveness excuse to hate it.

To be honest, I would've preferred Chrom over Lucina, if you look closely, she plays exactly like Marth. So I dunno what Sakurai's talking about...

Yeah I know where people go with this but people are forgetting that moves will be customizable too. We haven't seen everything these two can do.
It was obvious Lucina's style mimics Marth and Sakurai admitted it, but if there was something different then he turns the character into a roster spot. What people are complaining the most is how "easy" Lucina is for novice players which is entirely stupid in my opinion because you use whoever you want, no one forces you to use them.
People are complaining about roster space that is also stupid because we don't even know if it's limited anymore. "Oh but Sakurai said the roster was gonna be the same as Brawl's!" This roster already exceeded Brawl's and there are still veterans unmentioned that will return.

There are also too many Mario and Pokemon characters and no one has complained about that either it seems.

This is a nintendo game, 3rd party characters are solely invited if the developer seems it befitting of becoming a fighter.
Sakurai looks for characters who have a very important role in their titles not cameo appearances.
Thus it must have been a conflicting decision to include Robin and Lucina instead of Chrom since All 3 of them are the main characters of Fire Emblem: Awakening. But as seen, Sakurai chose Robin over Chrom in a heartbeat for the unique fighting abilities they posses with magic. Lucina is basically a Chrom with Marth's fighting style. (Remember Lucina was taught swordplay by Chrom so always keep that in mind) so it was conflicting for him to decide between them when the demand was solely on Chrom. But I agree, if they had put Chrom in there, it would be difficult to find any difference from Ike or Marth, Sakurai wants a roster full of different potential fighters and unique styles, not fan-pleasing roster full of pretty faces.
Am I disappointed Chrom wasn't a playable character? A piece of my heart says yes, but I'm just happy he's in there one way or another. Obviously I'm much more pleased to see a Fire Emblem: Awakening character in there overall! I was nervous that with all these subtle hints (Arena Ferox, Tiki Trophy, ID-Purpose playing in the Arena Ferox stage) that there wouldn't be any representative but it got better instantly with not one but two of it's main characters!
