Description
The battle of Cheron was the last battle between United Earth and the Romulan Star Empire. Gaining intelligence of a Romulan build up for one last offensive, Starfleet ships reverse the surprise and decimate the last of the Romulan attack fleet.
There are a lot of ships in this image, my attempt at capturing the chaos of battle as ships enter knife fight range.

Very nice!
It's interesting how ENT changed established events. Before, according to the official Chronology (created for Trek writers using info from past episodes and films), the Earth Romulan War was fought wuth bith sides using primitive lasers and nuclear missiles. Plus the Romulans had no cloaks (the ship in Balance of Terror was the first prototype), one way warp drives, and their ships were rounded cylinders with short stubby wings. After the war the advanced Daedalus-class was launched,with phasers, Photon torpedoes, a top speed of warp 3, and radio communications.
Just shows how writers like to alter things to suit them, even if it means creating inconsistencies.

TOS writers changed this constantly to suit them. Really hard to make a consistent canon. Also there were no canon ship designs before TOS period.

But the kicker is that the writers created the Star Trek Chronology book to help them keep a consistent canon, using information from each series (TOS, TNG, DS9 & VOY) and film! The book was only published for the general public much later.
According to the book Starfleet didn't exist before 2161 in any shape or form, and the very first starfleet vessels to bear the name Enterprise was the NCC-1701! It also saysthat the Romulans didn't have cloaking devices until the TOS episode 'Balance of Terror', which the Klingons gained from them in a later, short lived, alliance (which means no Klingon cloaking before the middle to late 2260's)!
It's as you say, that he writers change things to suit themselves, but in this case it's the writers of ENT and Discovery (which is an alt timeline) who are guilty!
