Description This is my entry for the contest of , I hope it I followed all the rules.

As the title suggests, this scene is based on a movie called "Dark Water". But warning, there's the original Japanese version of this movie and there's also an American remake of it. The warning here is necessary because, annoyignly enough, the American remake cuts this scene out which I think is really a shame because it's the strongest scene in the movie for me. Dark Water is the only horror movie that made me and my sister cry, seriously, it's a very tear-jerking movie. (the original one at least, I didn't feel it in the American remake)

A short explanation on what's happening in this picture. (following the plot of course) Going through a very ugly divorce and custody fight with France, England and Canada move into an apartment where England tries to get a job to prove that he is self-sufficient and can take care of Canada on his own. However, there's a ghost haunting the apartment complex, this being America who often causes large water leakages. America soon focusses his attention on England and Canada and attempts to take Canada's place, being driven by the desperate need to find a new caretaker/elder brother. (mother in the movie) At the end of the movie, America launches a full-scale attack on England's apartment and nearly drowns Canada in the process. England comes in time and finds Canada passed out on the ground, grabs him and runs to the elevator and tries to flee. The elevator however doesn't move and for a moment, England sees what he thinks is the form of the ghost giving chase. But when Canada stumbles out of the apartment, England realizes that he grabbed the wrong child. Just then, America cries out and jumps on England and wraps his arms around him.

It's just a very strong scene for me and the irony of grabbing the wrong child just reminded me of England's tendecy to mix Canada and America up. (though in the movie, it's not really his fault) I hope people can see that England and America are in a blocked elevator, Canada is in the hall and water is running down the wall and flowing into the elevator. It's the first time I drew the inside a building, so yeah, not really good at it.

Yeah, I also cried a lot at the end of the movie. ^^ It's the only horror movie that makes me cry. Yeah, the ghost girl wanted to turn the mother into a ghost too, but in the end she drowned her rather than strangle her.

I decided to track down the movie after seeing this picture and man...I would say the Japanese original's not so much scary as heartwrenching.

I do think this picture's rather well-drawn, although I think what you showed here of where the elevator door meets the hallway makes it look like the elevator was going down and then stopped partway - the water looks like it's going over the edge of something rather than simply spreading into the elevator. I don't know if that's what you were going for, but that's what it looks like to me.

True, the movie isn't that frightening, it just has some jump-scares here and there from what I remember. But the movie made me cry so much... I think it's one of the only horror movies that will ever make me cry.

Thank you so much, it makes me happy to read that you think my picture is well-drawn! Sadly though, this was my first serious attempt at drawing inside a building and I have very little practice with that. So the initial plan of drawing the elevator as it was in the movie had to be changed and I went for drawing the elevator as if it was blocked halfway. I simply couldn't figure out the perspective of drawing the water flowing in as it did in the movie. So that is what I was going for, it makes me relieved to see my skills at drawing the building weren't too bad, seeing as it gave you the idea of what I tried to draw.

Yeah, there were jump-scares (the biggest one being the bit with the handprints on the water tank) but otherwise, it was more a thriller/drama than a horror movie, in my opinion.

Oh, okay - so that was what you were going for. I'm glad that that's what I saw, then

Ah, it seems like you know the American remake of the movie. The movie is indeed very heart-wrenching but I think you'll cry more if you watched the original version. The one thing I criticize about the remake is that they didn't really show the emotional side of having the daughter see her mother being taken away by the ghost. In the remake, the girl was recovering from her own brush with death, while in the original the girl was fully aware that her mother was going to leave. I don't know, I just thought the scene from the original was stronger for me.

(isn't it interesting that the American remake made the ghost Russian? )
I think the original can be found on youtube but only the English dub survived the copyright hunters. I think there might be another one in its original language but the subtitles are in Italian or Spanish.
