Description Alternatively known as "faoladh" or "conroicht" in Irish. owo (personally I've always been familiar with using the word "conroicht" when talking about werewolves in Irish but I must admit that faoladh has a far nicer ring to it)

The werewolves we usually think about are instinct-driven bloodthirsty monsters who lose complete control of themselves, transform under the full moon and are only able to be taken down by silver bullets.
Then we have werewolves in the British Isles who are really kind, benevolent, guiding and in complete control of their humanity. There are stories of werewolves helping out the poorest families by hunting prey for them (this is particularly true of the Shetlandic variation of the werewolf, called wulver) and there are also tales of werewolves guiding lost humans out of forests. They transform whenever they want and it is never mentioned if they have a weakness against silver. So basically a complete 180° from what we usually know.

There are at least two variations of the werewolf lore in Ireland that I know of but I ran with the lesser known variation. Basically... Ireland here transforms into a werewolf by having his soul disconnect from his physical body and the soul takes on the shape of a werewolf. I don't know about you but I find that to be a freaking cool way to transform and it's pretty unique to the werewolf lore. There are still downsides to this because any injuries Ireland gains while in werewolf form will still manifest on his physical body. Oh and also, if anyone discovers Ireland's physical body and decides to move it, Ireland's soul can't return to the body!

Of all the pictures I upload about my OCs as mythical creatures, this is probably one of the few pictures where I actually want to make this part of Ireland's abilities. All of my OCs do have magic in them and they all have a set of abilities and... well adding lycanthropy to Ireland's magic is just so tempting. It also ultimately doesn't change Ireland too much because of how risky it would be to disconnect from his physical body and leave it unattended for long periods of time. I can imagine Scotland being a dick about it and moving Ireland's body just to annoy Ireland. XD

It might not be very visible on the picture, but Ireland is holding a cross to his chest in an effort to keep away any malevolant spirits who might see Ireland's physical body as a perfect vessel to take over. That'll still not protect him from anyone physically moving him, which is why he probably chose to transform in a remote glen far from any kind of human activity. (still not such a good idea Ireland...)

gah this description is getting long but I have so many things to say about werewolves and I haven't even started to discuss some really interesting points and... well, I'll take this as a hint to do more about Irish werewolves!!!

That is so COOL.
I had no idea that the British Isles had benevolent werewolves in their myths
I must second the question: are faoladhs born or made?

(..........well, there goes the last of my resolve to not make ANOTHER Hetalia crossover. Teen Wolf, here I come!)

I always loved the fact that werewolves from the British Isles were considered nicer in our legends and myths. Love how you've got Ireland lying down in this, everything is nicely proportioned!

Are faoladhs born or made? I'm curious because the usual bloodthirsty werewolves are made from witches curses or are witches themselves.

Now. That. Is. Just.. WICKED! It's actually an awesome idea the way Ireland turns into a werewolf like that! It's both spooky but also it's fitting! XD
