Description 5x10" copper etching
For anyone who hasn't read or watched "The Last Unicorn" by Peter S. Beagle I apologize, because this is a little bit of a spoiler It's a good read if you like fantasy adventure stuff. It has a very classic and enchanting story line, and a very fulfilling ending. As far as this piece is concerned, it is another Goya influence I've been very influenced by his work recently; several of my other pieces were made with his work in mind following the moody and atmospheric aesthetic. This print is not really the best...That white line coming off of the tail of a unicorn and trailing across the bull is because one of the blankets I used when running it though the press had a little weird wrinkle in it. I'll get a better photo of it after I edition it.
I'm very pleased to have finally gotten this done. I've had it planned since the beginning of August (kind of born around the same time the last one was being made) There were some complications... but after I finally got started it only took two and a half days really to do. I'm planning on only printing 5 editions, just because I have a lot of other stuff to do and I don't plan to sell them (although I may donate one of them to the department for them to sell).
Anyways, this is kind of just a small side project compared to the 4 etchings lined up for the rest of this semester which will be MUCH larger and very labor intensive. I'm super excited to get started. I'm applying for the undergraduate research grant at my university with them

Oh ya, and leave a critique! (before my premium membership expires)

edit: soo...I kinda ruined my plate, trying to edit this image a little today before editioning it. I was trying to make some areas darker by doing some engraving...bad idea. hard to explain. I'll put pictures on my blog, but I'm not sure if I can salvage this plate anymore. It looks like this will not get editioned after all this saddens me. After spending so much time on it...only to have it get totally ruined!!! I really am a noob at printmaking. I guess it is healthy for me to realize that before jumping into larger projects. I'll be more careful now.
