      ♡:sweet | even-tempered | docile | pleasant | charming | polite | kind | intuitive | intelligent | sensitive | chivalrous | affectionate | accepting | compassionate
      ☓:manipulative | dependent | indifferent | aloof | closed-off | benevolently sexist | impolite | oversensitive

Sweet-natured, even-tempered and possessing a docile indifference to personal insults, Loys has the sort of character that might have been more valuable to a sheep breeder than a patriarchal society. He's pleasant and charming, and generally polite and kind at first glance. For the most part, he truly is— Loys is not, by any standard, evil, but he's no saint, however he may try and convince people otherwise.

He's naturally manipulative, but will often use blackmail and gaslighting for the best intentions; in the end, Loys is a dependent personality who wants to be loved at all costs. The type of love is generally not of concern to him; as long as there's adoration, he adores fully back, and will often still adore back when there's no returning feelings to begin with. As a child, he would often reply maddeningly to his parents, "You can be angry, if you like. I don't mind," with the understanding that there is no worse punishment than indifference.

There's a streak of hypocriticalness to his need for adoration, because despite all his charismatic pretence, Loys is difficult to get close to. This is through no fault of his own; he will try to keep himself as open as possible, but the fact of the matter is he's amicably aloof and difficult to reach. He is content to plunge into the lives of others, but his own life is quite closed to perusal, to little complaint. People rarely ask him about himself, so focused Loys is on everyone else, that he's quite used to being an emotionally private person and simply accepts that this is the way it is.

It must also be added that despite his dependant personality, he has a saving grace in that he's not clingy in the least. Intuitive and sensitive to people's needs and emotions, he's good at giving space when it's required; because of his sharp intuition, he can also guess or "connect the dots" to people's dirty secrets very early on. Being a bit of a dirty-secret holder himself, he's not very inclined to judge; he'll simply keep it to himself, and help gloss over it in conversation with tact if he's fond of the person in question. He's not inclined to pry, although prying into Loys will be greeted by a little bit of flattered glee.

He has a scientist's mind, constantly curious and inquiring to things that aren't of a sensitive nature; plants, for instance. Having spent most of his life around humans and Necos, any race that is not these will intrigue him, and he can often forget about people's personal bubbles when he's on a mission. He also loves birds— a favourite subject to study and also embroider on chair covers when nobody is looking. Contrary to his seemingly fixed personality, he's always had a bit of wanderlust; he's constantly seeking novelty and has a thirst for the kind of romantic adventure depicted in books.

Loys has a huge soft spot for girls, upholding the double standard and chivalric code with pride. It can often come off as flirting, and in some cases it can be, but it's usually a rather pure and unadulterated affection, doubled if the girl in question is a little... abrasive. Perhaps his liking for girls is a little masochistic in nature.

He's had a rather large amount of romantic relationships, which is something of a little miracle; given that Loys is the master of the mixed message with intentions that are anything but forward. He tends to fall for people he can't have, which has driven him to keep his romantic feelings discreet, and in many cases, completely hushed up.

With his friends, his polite exterior will intentionally lower a little; Loys is quite the teaser, and in a lot of cases enjoys taking the piss out of people immensely out of affection. He often only manipulates people he loves, too, a mark of how dearly he wants you to stay around. It most certainly comes off as rude, which can make a jarring contrast to his initial manners and is yet another flip-flop aspect of his nature (he's a cusp sign— we're all unsurprised).

In a lot of ways, Loys resembles a sociopath; in the end, perhaps one of Loys's most redeeming features is his all-encompassing sense of compassion and remorse. The compassion is generally the most visible; he's sensitive to other people's suffering, and perhaps holds something almost akin to a saviour complex for people he quickly likes. He likes to fix, and this extends to people— he's drawn to damaged people, and even if they prove "unfixable", he'll willingly stick around, simply because he doesn't want them to be alone with (what he sometimes fancies to be) their misery. His remorse is more subtle; he very often feels it for his actions, and understands that what he does can be morally flawed, but sees it as a necessary act with collateral damage. He'll pay it back materially or in favours, most often of the time, like a personal debt.

In a nutshell, Loys is a debonair gentleman concealing a rather asshole exterior. But at his core, he's still a very sensitive and indecisive child.

    ❖ History:
Loys was born the second child to an affluent, somewhat upper-class Necrosian Neco family. His father was a shipbuilder turned property manager; Mr Albrecht worked in a shipyard during his youth, gradually working his way up to his current job. His mother was a peasant through-and-through, who found that Loys's father's habit of clamming up halfway through sentences, wordless gestures and suggestive eyebrow waggling (somehow) incredibly charming; they promptly eloped when they were still young, much to the scandalized outrage of their families.

The Albrechts live on a wealthy human's property, in the marshy area to the far east of the country. Loys had the rare privilege of being far outside the scope of Necros's mass industrialization; the smokestacks from afar provided vivid imagery for his imagination, fuelling his first pictures of far-off bombed cities, much to his parents' mild concern. The property was placed strategically on the river delta that feeds into Crispin, and consecutively many travellers and diplomats would stop and stay overnight in their manor before moving on to Tristian and Williamson. It gave Loys more than enough exposure to the laws of hospitality, and more importantly, a rather perceptive scope on the Necros-Crispinite rivalry. The stories from the diplomats of the streets of brightly-dressed women chattering in the streets amid multi-storied bookstores overflowing with books and thesis papers piqued his interest from a young age— and, perhaps, just maybe, drove his later desire for the Aura expedition.

Shortly after Loys's mother gave birth to him, she developed a form of post-partum depression rooted in complications involving his birth. This wasn't to say that she wasn't a loving wife and mother; she was both, and appeared to be as upbeat as ever. Loys would often only listen to his mother when he was acting up, due to his father's somewhat comedic ineptitude at reasoning logically with children. Eventually, Mrs Albrecht found that the emotional strain was too much; the summer after Loys's eighth birthday, while they were at the seaside, she committed suicide.

Even before his mother's death, Loys was a bizarrely sullen and bad-tempered child, notorious for violent, sobbing tantrums and crying for several hours if left alone. He caused his father and line of caretakers a great deal of grief in his early years, noticeably exacerbated after his mother's absence. As time ticked on, he seemed determined to make up for his behaviour as an infant by being the most docile child within a ten-mile radius – and later, the most pleasant, put-together gentleman who could successfully carry on an affable cocktail party conversation.

Purging was commonplace during Loys's childhood, and the poorer Neco and Crome children from the surrounding area would often disappear with little to no explanation, much to Loys's tearful laments. In stark contrast, the wealthy Neco families appeared to be as constant a presence as ever at the parties of the social season. He was to learn later that— put simply— money talks: only the richer families could afford to bribe the King's administration, and thus the Albrechts and many others (the Dees, for instance) were saved from the pogroms through monetary fines.

Being banned from schools as a minority race, Loys was home-tutored; it was a thoroughly Necrosian education with an emphasis on mathematics and science, and one that Loys willingly embraced. While he could appreciate the aesthetic beauty and more humanitarian Crispinite subjects, Loys only excelled in scientific research papers following strict structure. He may have shown a great deal of promise in the engineering field— that is, of course, if he wasn't a Neco.

Like most Neco and Crome boys below his calibre, he went into the factories directly after he completed schooling at seventeen. Loys was well-off enough that such a destiny as factory work could be easily avoided; however, he insisted upon doing it; after eighteen years of being held away from the cities, he was determined to give his dues to his country, and more importantly, have a good reason to go into the city.

He was greatly disillusioned about what he expected to find— factorial hierarchy was a strict chain of abuse, not the riveting King's workers he expected to find. Necros might have been a glorious country, thriving on industrialization, but it was clear from the moment that Loys began working: it came at a heavy price.

There was nothing to be done in Loys's eyes; he was no revolutionary, only a hardworking accomplice that would easily comply with anybody's demands. Thankfully, silent workers were rewarded heavily in the system; he finished a year in the blue-collar sector, and then received a job at the banks in Thresh, free from the trappings of factories.

Banking was nearly as tedious as his prior career, and almost worse in terms of prejudice; a Neco in a factory is one thing, but a Neco managing human money in a well-paying position is completely another. Loys found himself excessively alienated and homesick; banking was not a career he wished to pursue for the rest of his life, but education offered little other opportunities. He was beginning to feel trapped in the mysterious broadcloth of career complications and repetitive motions he was destined for- and wanted a way out.

The Aura expedition was a godsend in Loys's eyes; it offered free escape, a chance to step foot out of his native Necros and do something ridiculous and wildly out of his comfort zone. Loys was not normally reckless, but he was still a young man, and thus— he lunged himself at the sign-up.

And "borrowed" ten thousand in gold from his father's bank account, because he's an asshole.

    ❖ Voice Sample: his voice cracked | 2:31 - 2:49

    ❖ Relationships:
    K E Y :
    Exasperated
It's the closest Loys will come to dislike; it's only a mild annoyance, a slight twinge of irritation, really.

    Neutral
He lacks enough interaction to know much, or, hell, hasn't even met you yet. By default this is a mild liking.

    Acquaintances
He's met them, and enjoys their presence. But he enjoys everyone's presence, so you're not getting many perks here.

    Friends
He probably loves you dearly. Because he is crazy. It's difficult to get close to Loys, because he's naturally a little aloof and distant; if you've even gotten here, it's quite an accomplishment! Pat yourself on the back, Friend!

    Platonic love
A strong affection and obediently going "how high?" when you ask him to jump. If he's put his scarf on you, congratulations, you've cracked the Platonic Love achievement.

    Romantic love
    You stupid, pathetic fool.
      Alessa de Medici :

Loud and boisterous, he's been dreadfully taken with her since the first day; he's a little heartlessly cruel, however, and likes calling her boorish and a yokel. She calls him ancient constantly, much to his protests that twenty-two is a glowingly youthful age. Loys finds Alessa a little difficult to understand at times; she can get borderline mysterious, and gets cross for reasons he can't understand. He admits he might be holding back on his own end a little.

      Also, Oliver thinks they're dating.

Loys is content for him to think that, if it means his grubby homosexual hands are kept off Alessa's pure, maidenly body.

      Emmett Chaunte :

Put simply, he likes Emmett; they're rooming together, and while he struggles to get past the formal stage, rest assured, he's trying. Kind of. OK, well, it's Loys, and he really likes this guy. Despite this, he is prone to regarding Emmett as more fox than person- a pet fox, at that.

      Gilbert Ellington :

Loys is confused. Why does he speak in third person? Why does he think Loys is mean? Why does he have a snail on his head? We just don't know.

      Kerluc Enicurus :

He admires Kerluc very much; having the strength to stand up for what he believes in is a trait he envies very much. However, he's very hot-headed. Of course-- everyone has their flaws, and Loys, rather embarrassedly, thinks that Kerluc's rather all the more cool for it.

      Nicolae "Nicu" Popescu :

Underestimating Nicu's gullibility, Loys rather idiotically teased that they were married in a past life upon first meeting. Nicu has appeared to take this to heart, and yet, somehow, Loys doesn't seem to mind all that much. Rather, his gullibility is rather endearing. He hopes Nicu won't be dreadfully cross with him when he finally explains that they weren't married. He's also very kind, and Loys frets a little over they're definitely friends or not.

He seems to have very sensitive wings! Unfortunately, Loys doesn't seem to realize that touching them is any sort of violation privacy, because Nicu isn't a lady. His curious fondness seems to have sprouted from nowhere, but he wants to peruse it further.

      Oliver Clearey :

Left him with a terrible first impression, given that he insulted Loys's sisters and all-around acted like a sulky grade-schooler. He pushed Loys's politeness to breaking point- and yet, Loys still feels a little guiltless, and finds him a little hilarious. He's so preciously angry all the time, and Loys can't find it in him to be angry back, because it's quite comical. He also thinks Loys is a pervert? Something like that? If Oliver tries to get that reputation out, Loys will have to kill him. Nothing personal.

      Oona Temple :

Much to his complete and utter horror, the Miss Temple did not seem particularly charmed with him at first sight. Given that he was running away from a furious midget he had slighted at the time, this may have been justifiable; however, her stony attitude bothered him a little more than he would have liked. He isn't quite sure what to make of her - he realizes now that she judges Necros as a country rather furiously, and much to his distress, he can't exactly justify it. Instead of being nice like a normal person, he proceeded to be nice, and then guilt-trip her into becoming friends with him, because he's a terrible person. His own selfishness disgusts him a little. Try as he might, he can't regret it, because Oona is pretty, and nice, and so delightfully frigid and noncommittal!

He's likely coming off as overbearing with Oona; he knows this, and yet, he can't stop, much to his inner terror. He really does quite like Oona, and invests a lot more concern into this girl's opinion of him than anybody else. It's setting himself up for pain, given her sharp tongue and critical manner, but much to his bewilderment, he might be over his head.

Damnit, he's not allowed nor supposed to feel this way. She is a human, after all; it's nothing but dreams.

      Ria St Clair :

Having come from somewhat similar backgrounds, the same race, and both being remarkably well-mannered, Loys feels quite at ease around her. She's very much within his comfort zone, and he thinks that she's possibly the only other person who could understand what it was like to live in Necros being what they are— but of course, it's a little awkward to bring it up. He thinks he'll keep it to himself, and enjoy her company and classy teatime bitch MMMHMM

      Rina Tulau :

She's a good listener for his stories, and while he's well aware that she's kissing ass a lot of the time, he doesn't mind. He's fed her a rather dramatic story about how he's got a heartbroken ex-girlfriend who's waiting at home. It's always pleasant to get someone who even pretends to listen and compliment you all the time, of course. Although, strangely- he can't help but get a little annoyed- why is she hitting on Nicu? No. No.

      Sacha Katchora :

They had a single, shining conversation, which left Loys with a fluttery heart and the ridiculous conviction that all humans are secretly dashing Prince Charmings. I'm so sorry.

He also wants to get his hands on that prosthetic arm. In a completely non-creepy way.

      ?? ?

Sometimes, when Loys falls into a half-doze, he starts remembering things that shouldn't be in his mind in the first place; a room filling up slowly with water, the rush of the ocean, and then the glimpse of a face exactly like his through smoke or fog or clinical glass panes in a pseudo-hallucination. He thinks, perhaps, that he might be going crazy.

More often than not, now, he sees her as if an observer from afar and not a participant, now; the sound of explosion, running boots on pavement, blood, storybook pages. He thinks he might know her better than he knows himself.

      he's definitely going crazy

    ❖ Additional Information:
♦ He has an irrational fear of water. The irony is not lost on him.

♦ His mother and father eloped. Due to this, he's never met either set of grandparents.

♦ He's small, but dense, and rather wiry, not unlike a sack of wet cement. His punches are surprisingly... not light? Also, he has rather good alcohol tolerance for his weight.

♦ Unfortunately, he's also a forgetful drunk, and stumbles around a lot, mumbling tiredly to himself like the men your mother warned you about.

♦ He has a bad habit of waking up from dreams sobbing like a child or wandering around in a miserable daze, gulping for breath. Have fun, future~ room~mates!
