Description Coming soon to Daz3d. Rain is a comprehensive set, comprised of a main rain system, a choice of puddles and a set of impact splashes for low angle rendering. This set utilizes a different approach to single poly camera rigs, or 3d droplets - opting for staggered geometry over a large area. This means reflections both off camera or a large distance from your subject can be picked up and cascaded amongst neighboring geometry. The puddles and splashes are also affected by this, giving a pretty neat result

Welly, my poor little nimble fingers are all crooked from messing around with 3dl, but i will mess further, just for you! Seriously though, it's the shading that's super tricky for 3dl - reflections/refraction require a certain set of circumstances to look believable, and i need to deliver a system that is fairly portable across scenes. I'll keep tinkering though, promise!

Tell me about it, I love to make things with water, waterspray and the like, and I have been tinkering on it for days on end. Just recently fiddled around with Anisotropic which requires a metallic basic setting for the surface, it results on very convincing reflective behavior ( in combination with specular 2), but depends on the orientation (direction u/v) but that might be well set for rain.

I feel your pain welly! I'm not saying it can't be done, i've got pretty close myself .. heck, you've probably gotten even closer than i have. It's just the methods i've come across are quite dependent on the correct scene set up in order to look convincing. For instance - a simple character render with no backdrop just won't do the trick, because there is nothing for the rain network to work with. For my method to work properly in 3dl, you'd need an environment, skydome and some direct lighting to get the best out of it. I know you yourself, and many others could probably work out how to get the best out of it. There are however, quite a few people who would just expect it to look great right out of the box. I'll put my thinking cap on welly, and thanks for the tips!

A probably easy cheat for the budding 3delight user might be to add reflection maps, that way they would not neet a full environment and it still would look good out of the box. With a hint to the advanced user to switch reflections to environmental for proper reflection effects everybody would be happy ( I guess there is always someone complaining but aside from that)

I have been waiting for this product for a year. It looks convincing, and your puddles in Cyberpunk City have a glass-like sheen that is hyper-real. When are you going to announce it on Daz PA Commercial Thread? Post a bunch of renders so we can get the hype going. Oh, did you ever see the image I made using Cyberpunk City? Your Existence Is Illegal!  I sent you a PM on Daz back then.

Hi Xyer0, sorry i missed your post, i just commented over there. I will post in my WIP thread soon, and hopefully people will find it useful. It's not a one time deal either - i have a lot of weather simulations i've been skating around for months, and i'd really like to get them to the store. It's just a bit tricky however, since the shading really needs to be just right in order to be portable across scenes. A top notch particle system would be a better alternative, but until that time, i think people could really some mileage out of this method. Thanks for dropping by!

I definitely can get lots of mileage out of this. And I prefer the specialist route to a Swiss Army knife approach.
