Description Well I think I have this technique properly figured out now thanks to a quick look up of a tutorial, it's possible that I should have looked this up sooner rather than trying to figure it myself. Could have saved hours of frustration.

The simplicity of this photo really strikes me as beautiful. The blur in the background really pops the ladybug's color out and I think the color added to the ladybug is a great touch. Even without the color it would look great! My favorite part of the whole picture is the texture of the leaves in the background. I think it is a nice addition to the picture. Although there are good things in it, I think that the little spider next to it is freaking me out! Hope the little thing didn't get eaten for it's breakfast. I actually didn't notice the spider till I gave the picture a second look, but it is distracting from the original star in the picture. All in all, you did a pretty good job! Well done!

thankyou so much for taking the time to do this, I almost coloured the spider too but thought better of it in the end lol.

Hmm, I'm not sure what I think. I LOVE the ladybug, how it's coloured and it looks really nice. But there's so much around it. It's so blurry that ... I don't know...it confuses my eyes? The top part is okay, but the bottom seems so close that it takes away from the ladybug.

PS I love the black and white with one coloured part. I used to do that a lot...should do it more. lol It's so much fun.

I can see where you're coming from and I took it this way as I intended the shot to force your focus onto the ladybird so I'm sorry that it has not had the desired effect for you. I most definitely apreciate the comment though real constructive criticism is rare yet it's the best way to learn.
Thankyou so much for an honest opinion

Wow, this is really amazing. The bright color of the ladybug, its glossy surface reflecting the light on its shell really makes a wonderful effect to the picture. And I love the grayscale surrounding it. Just beautiful how it's the main focus of the picture and pops so well. Good Job.

basically cos there was nothing else to do lol, I live in a village where there is basically cows, flowers, birds the odd bee and a bus once an hour. the woodpecker genuinly seemed like the most interesting thing likely to happen on saturday

cool photo^^ love the whole black and white with on thing colored look. but i have a question, did u use a macro lens?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

King1976Bob In reply to Zedrake [2011-03-19 10:41:43 +0000 UTC]

No I used the 18-55 kit lense that came with my camera, It's got a stupidly close minimum focal lenght so you can zoom to the full 55mm and get literally inches away from your target.

Zedrake In reply to King1976Bob [2011-03-19 14:58:46 +0000 UTC]

ah! same as mine then im guessing^^ im looking for a good and cheap macro lense that doesnt have a minimum focal distance of 30cm
not easy to find i tell ya >_<

DDDD wow looks PRO. yes im envious now >_<. amazing shot very ineresting composition of colour and grayscale. the light is perfect both on the ladybug and the plant. the spider is not that clearly visadlebut that go so well together with the image name. I would incurage you to make your own watermark or signature tho. something that dosent interfere and spoile the experiense of the image.
