Description A Pirate and an Icarus

I will wear my scars with pride!
Like a pirate's flag
riding the tide;
Jolly Roger shotgun
black paint and white
on the flagships of saints,
now reclaimed for the weary.

Ships stutter and creak.
The rudders lament,
impending descent.
Into madness I scream!
Awake like a stranger.
In heartless anger
I breathe the danger.

Ship to shore,
with sirens calling.
The lifeboats will hold no more.
Body and mind falling,
I open the door.

The flood and the water!
The drowning.
My daughter!
The howling.
The slaughter.

I stand against it all.
The blood rush now coming,
I stand tall.
With scars beaming;
Lighting the way.

I will not fall!
Scars gleaming
I will stand, I will not sway!
And scars will guide me
into day.

The ocean bleeds.
The ocean breathes,
against my wings:
The wings of my pain
that carry me away.

Far from these blood stains,
from these oceans of pain,
from the sins of the father,
from the sins of the day.
And the sins of the daughter,
to be conquered this way.

I will rise up against it!
A martyr to the night.
The flight of my phoenix,
an open ascent
with no end in sight.
I will become an Icarus
laden with foresight.

I will soar past the sun:
Wings of metal
and wings of flesh,
no danger in the bright sun.
Feathers eclipsing all light!
A shadowed avenger,
diving into moonlight.

A reaping.
A haunting.
An end of days!
I will stand against them
holding my way.
With scars to guide me,
and scars to remind.
Scars to help find me;
scars to leave the pain behind.

A beacon in the darkness,
a Roman delight.
Far from kindness,
far from second sight.
I bring all my darkness,
I bring all my light.
In brilliance I shine
to the end of the night.

Daylight kisses
this world wearied flesh.
I am just a child,
enslaved to your caress.
Dreaming of the wild,
the winds of despair,
and the oceans I will face
in endless repair.
