Description
Work piece for WizKids! They needed a 16th century Viking pirate ship, so took me sometime to figure out the forms and structures.Hard to imagine what would Vinkings be like if they survived the 10th centutry and beyond... Hope you folks like it!

Beautiful painting!
Not to be anal...but is that a two-mast longship? 'Cause examples like that were never made...I think... And by the 16th cent there weren't any Vikings proper left. They kinda nationalised by the 12th cent.
Anyway, a beautiful, evocative and slightly aggresive painting!

I love this picture. You not only got the Vikings, but the Viking ship, the cool Viking scenery... Very nice.
Oh, and the earliest form of Vikings in horned helmets come from as early as the 12th century. While it is true Vikings didn't do the horned helmet thing, they were depicted as "horned demons" by monks, priests and artists very early on. This was a way of demonizing all Vikings so everyone would basically be afraid of them. Maybe that's an interesting bit of info...

In technicality, vikings never did wear "Viking" helmets according to history. Wonders how do those Viking helmet helmet designs arose from anyways... :3
