Chapter 6: Invasion

The group hurried back to the bastion. They explained to Gary what happened and that they needed to get back to Arkala immediately. Gary ordered his men to reset the portal, allowing Envy to change the portal’s destination. After the portal was lit, the group immediately ran through the portal. On the other side, Arkala was under attack. The village was swarmed by golems everywhere.

“I think we’re too late, there’s earthbent golems everywhere!” Bonnie said.

“You guys, look for any survivors. I’m going to find Ivan.” Envy said. As Envy searched for Ivan, she found her house, but it was completely destroyed. "Oh Ivan, where are you?" She said, worried. Meanwhile, Bonnie, Siss, Sombra, and Terrance wandered through what was left of the town square. There was fire everywhere. Just then, a villager was heard calling for help.

“Do you hear that?” Siss asked.

“Yeah, I do.” Bonnie answered. Sombra teleported over to the source of the sound.

“Hey, guys! There’s people here!” Sombra shouted. Siss, Bonnie and Terrance hurried over. Behind the debris of a house, there was a mother and two children.

“Are you ok?” Bonnie asked.

“Yes, we’re fine. Thanks for saving us.” the mother said, gratefully.

“Are there any others?” Sombra asked.

“Watch out!” one of the children screamed. The girls turned around to see a vindicator charging at them. Terrance smacked him away with his big arms.

“Good boy, Terrance!” Siss said. Terrance looked at Siss with glee. More illager soldiers then approached. Bonnie turned to the mother.

“Ma’am, get out of here, now!” she cried.

“Keep an eye out for any other villagers too!” Sombra said. The mother nodded as she and her children ran off.

“Alright then,” Bonnie said as she turned back to the mob. “Who’s next?” Meanwhile, Envy searched the streets, the destroyed buildings, everywhere. She couldn’t find Ivan. Envy then took to the skies and watched from above. In front of town hall, she could see flashes of purple light surrounded by a mob of soldiers. She swooped down towards Town Hall, obliterating the illagers as she landed. She looked up and saw Ivan.

“Ivan!” Envy cried.

“Envy! You’re alive!” Ivan cried. Envy then picked him up and hugged him. “Awww, I missed you too.” Envy put him back down.

“Ivan, the pearl!” Envy cried.

“We know.” Ivan said. “There’s no time for that right now. We have bigger problems. ” The rest of the illager soldiers charged at them. Ivan and Envy stood side by side, fighting them back. Envy shot darkrune fireballs at an evoker and then sliced their head off as they were stunned. “Nice one, Envy!” Ivan said.

“Thank you.” Envy said. “Also, check out this cool trick I learned a while back.” Envy sprayed her diamond sword with darkrune fire, lighting it. Ivan stared in awe. Envy then slashed the incoming vindicators with her sword, burning them with the fire. The vindicators screamed in agony as the fire burned through their armor.

“Ok, I wanna learn that!” Ivan said. Meanwhile at the Town Square, Bonnie, Siss, Sombra, and Terrance cleared out the last of the soldiers that were attacking them.

“Ha! Is that all you got?” Bonnie said. Just then, a potion was thrown on the ground behind them. Sombra and Siss fell to the ground as they were poisoned. “Sombra! Siss!” Bonnie cried. Bonnie saw a witch holding a poisonous potion. Bonnie pulled out her twin bow and shot the witch. A stone golem then rose from the ground and smashed Bonnie to pieces. Terrance jumped in and tackled the stone golem. Meanwhile at Town Hall, Ivan and Envy just cleared out the mob of soldiers. Just when they thought it was over, Ivan could see a figure approaching from the smoke with a recognizable green light.

“Envy, stay here.” Ivan said.

“Why?” Envy asked. She then looked over and saw Lord Drax. She gasped. “Ivan, don’t!” she cried. Lord Drax stood with pride as the Earth Pearl glowed in his scepter. When he saw Envy, his smile immediately faded away.

“You?!” Lord Drax cried. “How did you get here!?”

“You’re smart. Why don’t you figure it out, asshole?” Envy said.

“Leave my daughter alone, Drax! She has nothing to do with this!” Ivan said. Lord Drax then burst in laughter.

“I’m sorry, your daughter!?” Lord Drax said as he continued laughing. “You fool! She’s a dragon. Did you literally ask a dragon to be your wife?”

“That’s none of your concern.” Ivan said. Lord Drax then sighed.

“You really thought this win was gonna be easy, huh?” Lord Drax said. “Well guess what? You were wrong. And now, y’all have no choice but to bow down to me.”

“We will never bow down to such a tyrant!” Ivan said.

“Very well then. If you think you’re so cocky, then make your first move, sorcerer.” Lord Drax said. Meanwhile, Terrance just vanquished the stone golem, but then more golems showed up and overpowered him. Terrance fell on top of Bonnie, heavily damaged. Sombra, with the last bit of her strength, teleported away. Siss was still on the ground, poisoned. As her vision began to blur, Siss’s body then ignited. A few seconds later, she created a massive explosion that shook the entire village. As this happened, Lord Drax felt the explosion and looked in its direction. Ivan then shot an explosive fireball at Lord Drax. Drax noticed the fireball and jumped out of the way. Envy then swooped down and tried to strike him with her burning sword. Lord Drax then summoned a rock fist that punched Envy in the stomach. Envy held her stomach in pain. Lord Drax then smacked her away with his scepter. Ivan then shot more fireballs at Lord Drax, but he raised a shield of rocks from the ground, blocking the attack. Drax then lunged at him. Envy looked up at the two fighting. Her stomach was still aching. She tried to get up to save Ivan, but she was in so much pain. Ivan was so overwhelmed by earthbent obstacles that he was eventually restrained. Before Lord Drax could make the finishing move, Envy used all her strength to fly straight towards Lord Drax and slash his scarred eye. Lord Drax fell to his knees, releasing Ivan.

“Thanks, Envy.” Ivan said.

“Well that was a close call. Am I right, Ivan?” Envy said. Just then, a huge rocky hand rose and pinned Envy to the ground.

“Envy!” Ivan cried. Two smaller hands dragged him to his knees. The rocky hand then launched Envy to the side. Lord Drax slowly walked up to Ivan with a bloody eye. He punched him in the eye and grabbed his face.

“Looks like your time has just run out…” he said, menacingly. As Envy looked up, her heart stopped as she watched Lord Drax stab Ivan with the bottom of his scepter.

“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” Envy screamed before a golem came and punched her really hard. Later, Envy woke up to Sombra telling her to wake up. "Oww!" Envy groaned, groggily. As she looked around, the village was reduced to ashes in the rising sun.

"You’re alive!" Sombra said.

"Envy, are you ok?" Siss asked. Envy then saw Ivan's body lying motionless in the distance. There was also a puddle of blood underneath him.

"Ivan!" She cried as she got up and ran over to him.

“Oh no!” Sombra said.

“Ivan, can you hear me?” Envy asked.

“E-Envy?” Ivan said, weakly. He also had a bloody rag on his wound.

"Hold on, Ivan! We'll get something to heal you!"

"Envy…" Ivan said. "M-my time is up."

“Ivan, please! You can’t die!” Envy whined as her voice started to tremble.

“Listen to me, Envy." Ivan said." The war is not over yet. You can still stop Drax.”

"But I need you, Ivan." Envy whined. "I won’t know what I’ll do without you! I don’t even know if we can stop Drax.” She starts welling up with tears.

“Envy,” Ivan said, “When I was as desperate as you, my father always said, ‘What destiny is lost is not gone forever’...”

“Wh…what do you mean by that?” Envy asked as she sniffled.

“It means, there’s always a way to redeem yourself.” Ivan answered “Don't worry, you've got this. You’re the strongest girl I know." His breathing became slower and slower. "Envy, I will always be with you. I'm going to become more powerful than you can ever imagine. Now--g--go, my---daughter.” Ivan said as he dropped dead.

“Ivan? Ivan!” Envy started sobbing over her guardian’s dead body.

"Envy, I'm so sorry." Sombra said. Terrance limped towards Envy and patted her back while holding a flower. Envy took the flower.

“You know, he’s right, Envy.” Bonnie said. “It’s not over. We can still win. Come on friend, let's gear up.”

“*sniff* Ok.” Envy said in a weeping voice.

“That’s the spirit.” Bonnie said. “But first, let’s take care of Ivan.” After Ivan was buried, the group headed back to the Nether to upgrade their gear to netherite. The piglins also offered to help upgrade Terrance. The war was not over yet. On that day, a new group of heroes was born. And those heroes called themselves the Darkrune Defenders.
